SIX POINT DEMAND
: During 18th century
East Pakistan & West Pakistan was a combine country. But
East Pakistan was fully ignored and dominated by west
Pakistan. Though east Pakistan played very importented roll
during that time but didn’t got proper rights & neglected.
Therefore In 1966, The Six Point Movement took place.
The six point movement was a movement in East Pakistan,
spearheaded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which called for
greater autonomy for East Pakistan. The movement's main
agenda was to realize the six demands put forward by a
coalition of Bengali nationalist political parties in 1966, to
end the perceived exploitation of East Pakistan by the West
Pakistani rulers. It is considered a milestone on the road
to Bangladesh's independence.
Background of Six Points
Programme:
During the election of 1960 & 1965, Awami League wins
those elections with great number. But The dictator Ayub Khan
didn’t accepted that result. He and west Pakistani politician
Vutto did’t want to make a East Pakistani politician into
Pakistans President. Therefore people of east Pakistan became
very angry. Ayub Khan creat a fake case and arrested Shekh
Mujibur Rahman. Not only that, there was so many
disclamation during that time. West Pakistan said that east
Pakistan was there fedarel state but it wasn’t in constitution.
People of east Pakistan had to face many problem and
disclaminaton during that time by west Pakistani people. There
are some vital reasons behind six point movement. Those are:
Social Platfrom: East and West Pakistan was a
combined country but their culture, language, getup,
dailylife, food, was totally different. People of East & West
Pakistan belonged to different social systems and they
could not develop an understanding with each other.
Officers of East Pakistan were more friendly towards
people whereas, the officers from West Pakistan had a
different attitude towards the people of East Pakistan. This
created a sense of hatred against West Pakistan.
Economical Platfrom:
Though economic growth in East Pakistan was revived during
Ayub Khan's so-called decade of reforms, growth rate while East
Pakistan was much lower than that of West Pakistan. In 1962
Constitution of Pakistan, there was some budget to make
improvement for the East Pakistan’s economical system but they
didn’t even make any steps. Because of their lack intension
people of east Pakistan lost their interest in west Pakistan
government.
Defense Platfrom: Difference in arm force or
security of east Pakistan was one of the big reason of six
point. Because there was no federal arm force in East
Pakistan. There was two war between India & West Pakistan
but East Pakistan was totally defenseless. So it was too much
risky for east Pakistani during the war time. In the military of
Pakistan, there was no place for east Pakistani. They didn’t
even recognized for this post.

Social Economical Defense
West East
 The Constitution should provide for a Federation of Pakistan
in its true sense based on the Lahore Resolution, and the
parliamentary form of government with supremacy of a
Legislature directly elected on the basis of universal adult
franchise.
 The federal government should deal with only two subjects:
Defence and Foreign Affairs, and all other residual subjects
should be vested in the federating states.
 Two separate, but freely convertible currencies for the two
wings should be introduced; or if this is not feasible, there
should be one currency for the whole country, but effective
constitutional provisions should be introduced to stop the
flight of capital from East to West Pakistan. Furthermore, a
separate Banking Reserve should be established and
separate fiscal and monetary policy be adopted for East
Pakistan.
 The power of taxation and revenue collection should be
vested in the federating units and the federal centre would
have no such power. The federation would be entitled to a
share in the state taxes to meet its expenditures.
 There should be two separate accounts for the foreign
exchange earnings of the two wings; the foreign exchange
requirements of the federal government should be met by
the two wings equally or in a ratio to be fixed; indigenous
products should move free of duty between the two wings,
and the constitution should empower the units to establish
trade links with foreign countries.
 East Pakistan should have a separate military or paramilitary
force, and Navy headquarters should be in East Pakistan
Considering the events of that day which were to be a
milestone on the road to Bangladesh's independence in late
1971, the nation has since been observing June 7 as the historic
Six-Point Day.The Six Points have been widely acknowledged
as the "charter of freedom" for Bengalis and the movement in
June 1966 for their implementation was a turning point in
Bangladesh's struggle for freedom from Pakistani colonial
domination, say historians and political analysts.
Six point was the first dream of east Pakistani of their freedom.
Because of so many years of domination and disclamation
people of east Pakistan sow the seed of freedom by six point
movement. They started movement against the dictator AYUB
Khan. The movement was so powerful that Ayub khan had to
resign from his president post. After a powerful movement
people of this state realize that being polite can’t bring their
right. Therefore the realize how to achieve their rights after so
many years. They got their leader who can lead them to their
rights and free them from their so many years of suffering.
People of this country need a leader and inspiration and they
got it from the event. In the war of 1971, people fought for
those rights which was announced in 1966 six point movement.
Many historian believe that people of Bangladesh fought for
the rights and their motherland. And those rights are six point
demand. After that they realize it was the announcement of
their war. If west Pakistani govt don’t give those rights people
have to fight and this causes 1971’s war of independence.
The Daily Star: Subsequently, The people of the then
eastern province of Pakistan had vested their full trust in their
Bangabandhu in the general elections of 1970, that made this
extraordinary man their legitimate sole spokesperson and
undisputed leader. Indeed, it was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, the undisputed leader of his people, who had
spearheaded Bangladesh's struggle for full-blown independence.
The timing, first for framing and articulating the six-point
formula, and then launching and sustaining a nationalistic
movement for realising the goals of six-point formula, was
crucially important. The economic and political demands, as
stipulated and enumerated in the historic six-point formula, were
the frontal assault on the foundation of Pakistan's colonial and
authoritarian modes of governance.
So, we can say that, The six-point plan had exposed the fact that
the real intention of Pakistan’s ruling elite was to “strengthen” the
Punjabi-Mohajir dominated Central Government. Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman repeatedly said in several public meetings that that the
people of Pakistan had always desired a “strong Pakistan,” not a
“strong Central Government.
THE END

The federation would be entitled to a share in the state taxes to meet its expenditures.  There should be two separate accounts for the foreign exchange earnings of the two wings; the foreign exchange requirements of the federal government should be met by the two wings equally or in a ratio to be fixed; indigenous products should move free of duty between the two wings, and the constitution should empower the units to establish trade links with foreign countries.  East Pakistan should have a separate military or paramilitary force, and Navy headquarters should be in East Pakistan
  • 6. Considering the events of that day which were to be a milestone on the road to Bangladesh's independence in late 1971, the nation has since been observing June 7 as the historic Six-Point Day.The Six Points have been widely acknowledged as the "charter of freedom" for Bengalis and the movement in June 1966 for their implementation was a turning point in Bangladesh's struggle for freedom from Pakistani colonial domination, say historians and political analysts. Six point was the first dream of east Pakistani of their freedom. Because of so many years of domination and disclamation people of east Pakistan sow the seed of freedom by six point movement. They started movement against the dictator AYUB Khan. The movement was so powerful that Ayub khan had to resign from his president post. After a powerful movement people of this state realize that being polite can’t bring their right. Therefore the realize how to achieve their rights after so many years. They got their leader who can lead them to their rights and free them from their so many years of suffering. People of this country need a leader and inspiration and they got it from the event. In the war of 1971, people fought for those rights which was announced in 1966 six point movement. Many historian believe that people of Bangladesh fought for the rights and their motherland. And those rights are six point demand. After that they realize it was the announcement of their war. If west Pakistani govt don’t give those rights people have to fight and this causes 1971’s war of independence.
  • 7. The Daily Star: Subsequently, The people of the then eastern province of Pakistan had vested their full trust in their Bangabandhu in the general elections of 1970, that made this extraordinary man their legitimate sole spokesperson and undisputed leader. Indeed, it was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of his people, who had spearheaded Bangladesh's struggle for full-blown independence. The timing, first for framing and articulating the six-point formula, and then launching and sustaining a nationalistic movement for realising the goals of six-point formula, was crucially important. The economic and political demands, as stipulated and enumerated in the historic six-point formula, were the frontal assault on the foundation of Pakistan's colonial and authoritarian modes of governance. So, we can say that, The six-point plan had exposed the fact that the real intention of Pakistan’s ruling elite was to “strengthen” the Punjabi-Mohajir dominated Central Government. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman repeatedly said in several public meetings that that the people of Pakistan had always desired a “strong Pakistan,” not a “strong Central Government. THE END
