Main Accomplishments
-Developed a novel bio-based products, “corn fiber gum” (CFG) and “super corn fiber
gum” (super CFG) from corn milling by-products, which is a potential replacer of
gum arabic as emulsifier in beverages and other food applications.
Developed “Bio-based Fiber Gums” (BFGs) from agricultural residues, agricultural
processing by-products and energy crops, which are useful as a binding agent for
making pellets and briquettes from powders of carbonaceous materials such as
petroleum coke, coal dust, charcoal powder etc., as an adhesive for porous materials
such as paper and wood, as an emulsifier for stabilizing oil-in-water and water-in-oil
emulsions, as water soluble anti-oxidant, viscosity modifier, film former,
encapsulating agent, and a soluble dietary fiber with antioxidant properties.
Developed “Cellulosic Arabinoxylan Fiber” (CAF) Gel with very good water holding
capacity from agricultural residues, agricultural processing by-products and energy
crops which have many useful applications in food and non-food industries.
Developed “Insoluble Biomass Gel” (IBG) from agricultural residues, agricultural
processing by-products and energy crops which have many useful applications in
food and non-food industries.
-Identified the functional groups in CFG responsible for its emulsion stabilizing capacity.
-Developed isolation procedure of CFG to preserve its functional components.
-Conjugated protein deficient CFG with whey protein to enhance its functionalities.
-Improved the pasting and thermal behaviour of starch by adding CFG
Developed technology to prevent starch retrogradation by adding CFG
-First to report the presence of lipid components in gum arabic and its contribution
towards emulsifying properties.
-Discovered the presence of glycosylphosphatidylinositol lipid anchor (GPI-lipid anchor)
on rose arabinogalactan protein (AGP).

Main Accomplishments -Developed a novel bio-based products, “corn fiber gum” (CFG) and “super corn fiber gum” (super CFG) from corn milling by-products, which is a potential replacer of gum arabic as emulsifier in beverages and other food applications. Developed “Bio-based Fiber Gums” (BFGs) from agricultural residues, agricultural processing by-products and energy crops, which are useful as a binding agent for making pellets and briquettes from powders of carbonaceous materials such as petroleum coke, coal dust, charcoal powder etc., as an adhesive for porous materials such as paper and wood, as an emulsifier for stabilizing oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions, as water soluble anti-oxidant, viscosity modifier, film former, encapsulating agent, and a soluble dietary fiber with antioxidant properties. Developed “Cellulosic Arabinoxylan Fiber” (CAF) Gel with very good water holding capacity from agricultural residues, agricultural processing by-products and energy crops which have many useful applications in food and non-food industries. Developed “Insoluble Biomass Gel” (IBG) from agricultural residues, agricultural processing by-products and energy crops which have many useful applications in food and non-food industries. -Identified the functional groups in CFG responsible for its emulsion stabilizing capacity. -Developed isolation procedure of CFG to preserve its functional components.
  • 8. -Conjugated protein deficient CFG with whey protein to enhance its functionalities. -Improved the pasting and thermal behaviour of starch by adding CFG Developed technology to prevent starch retrogradation by adding CFG -First to report the presence of lipid components in gum arabic and its contribution towards emulsifying properties. -Discovered the presence of glycosylphosphatidylinositol lipid anchor (GPI-lipid anchor) on rose arabinogalactan protein (AGP).
