1. Journal is not just a fun activity to keep students
busy during English class, it is a practical and
multifaceted tool that has benefits in all areas of
their lives. We can mention the most outstanding
benefits and they are:
Journals promotes linear, logical thinking and
clear self-expression.
A student's journal is a safe, judgment-free zone
Practice makes the teacher, and writing is no
exception.
Confident self-expression leads to better self-
esteem.
2. A diary, while useful in its own right, is
more about repeating the events of the
day so that you remember what you
did. A reflective journal, on the other
hand, allows you to make sense of
what the day's events mean to you. It
empowers you to transform your
personal experience into a learning
experience.
3. Everyone has the right to communicate their opinions
and ideas and share information in any form. In human
rights this is called freedom of expression.
For this reason it is very beneficial for students to have
their diary since they will be able to write freely
expressing their feelings, emotions, things that happen
on a daily basis, opinions, school or university tasks,
important points, etc. without being questioned.
4. Improving your writing helps you become a better
communicator overall and also improves your
reading, which is another essential job skill. And
your ability to write a well-crafted application,
resume, and cover letter is the first step to getting a
job.
That is why writing in your diary will make you
permanently review the grammar, writing of the
language and thus you can correct and improve
your writing ability day by day.
5. One of the merits of journal ( and letter ) writing is the
dialogue it encourages between teacher and students . When
a teacher writes to a class and says , ' you can write to me on
any subject and I will reply . But do not worry , I will not show
your letter to anybody else , and you do not have to write to
me if you do not want to ' , the student knows they have a
channel of communication that was not there before . When a
student writes in a journal , he or she knows that the teacher
will read what is written with , perhaps , a different eye from
the normal evaluative one . A different kind of conversation
therefore takes place .
