3. Objective / Scope
The objective of our project is to design and develop a
“Smart Gas Cylinder Trolley” which will be capable of monitoring
the continuous drop of weight of gas in the cylinder while it is in
use. Apart from this, it will be also having the potential to identify
that gas leakage/fire and notify the owner by auditory output.
The project involves the use of microcontroller (Arduino
UNO), load cell or force sensor, LPG gas sensor, light indicator,
speaker/buzzer, C++ language and a trolley.
•Load cell: It will monitor the weight of the cylinder and will give
the visual information about the level of gas through the indicators
of different colors.
•LPG Gas Sensor: This sensor will be used to sense the presence of
hazardous LPG gas leak from the cylinder. It will be attached to an
alarm circuit to give an alert to the user through of buzzer sound if
gas leakage happens.
•Trolley: The gas cylinder trolley will be manufactured by Additive
Manufacturing using a heavy duty plastic. It will be equipped with
wheels to aid the easy movement of cylinder without calling for a
lot of physical strength. Trolley will be the main part of our project
since it will act as a house of the other components.
•Arduino UNO: It is an open source programmable,
microcontroller. Arduino can be programmed on Arduino Software
using C++. It will work as the brain of our project. It will read input
from load cell or LPG gas sensor and accordingly turn it into output
- activating light indicator or alarm.

5. Target
We often face this issue of LPG gas cylinders suddenly getting
empty. People tend to miss out on checking the gas cylinders for its
volume and capacity. Moreover, it is difficult to measure the exact
volume of gas left in the cylinder at any point of time by normally
lifting it with weighing machine.
We kept this issue in mind and came up with an idea which will not
only resolve this issue but it will also help in measuring the volume
of cylinders when it arrives and make sure the service provider is
giving us the required volume.
Our idea revolves around sensor technology where we will attach 3
different breakpoints that will work as an alarm and notify the user
about the status of cylinder’s volume. The product will have three
different lights for different statuses and will be switched on as
soon as the gas reaches that capacity. This innovation will help
every household to keep track of the gas consumption and place
order for another lot on time.
