2. Definitions of Industrial Engineering
Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering which deals
with the optimization of complex processes, systems or
organizations.
It is an engineering sector that deals with design, improvement
and integrated systems in a industry
Industrial engineering may also be known as, or overlap with,
operations research, systems engineering, manufacturing
engineering, production engineering, management science,
management engineering, ergonomics, safety engineering
etc.
3. Objectives of Industrial Engineering
To increase the productivity
To eliminate the waste and non value adding
operations
To improve the effective utilization of resource
To reduce the production cost
4. History of Industrial Engineering(IE)
IE was generated mainly for Industrial Revolution.
Industrial revolution and Engineering are actually supporting
each other.
The technologies that helped mechanize traditional manual
operations in the textile industry including the Flying shuttle,
the Spinning jenny, and perhaps most importantly the Steam
engine generated Economies of scale that made Mass
production of in centralized locations attractive for the first
time.

5. Industrial Engineering Coursework
Students entering into an industrial engineering degree program
should expect to enroll in many of these types of classes:
Engineering Economy
Manufacturing Processes
Operations Research
Simulation
Industrial Cost Control
Robotics and Automation
Inventory Control
Facility Design
Organizational Management
Quality Control
Human Factors
Methods & Work Measurement
Production Control
6. Five Reasons To Study IE
1. The look around Technique
2. A dynamic field, if ever it was one
3. There’s no such thing as a bad idea

14. Capacity Check
Maximum Capacity
-Total hours available under normal conditions in a given
period of time.
Potential Capacity
-Maximum capacity adjusted for efficiency.
Committed Capacity
-Total hours previously allocated for production during a
certain time period.
15. Continue……..
Available capacity
- Difference between potential capacity and committed
capacity for a certain time period.
Required Capacity
- SAM or SAH necessary to produce a specified volume in a

18. Conclusion
The garment manufacturing industry faces many global
challenges due to various factors including competition,
increased production costs, less productivity/efficiency and
labor attribution. So, there is a need to focus and concentrate
on identifying the real issues, taking corrective actions suited to
the specific industrial centre of the unit, empowering the
technical and managerial staff by enhancing their knowledge
and ability, analyzing orders efficiently and deciding whether
actions are viable for the company
