SIMPLE
SENTENCES
2
In English language every simple sentence must have at least
a subject and a verb, such a sentence is called a "simple
sentence". subject of the sentence is who or what the sentence
speaks about. verb is what the sentence says about the subject.
in the following sentences verbs and subjects are specified.
Hamid is jogging. The man doesn't speak.
3
The book fell down. My dad is hard-working.
4
The subject is a noun (any person, place, or thing). a pronoun also can be
the subject of a sentence, actually pronouns (I, we, he, she, . . .) are used in
place of nouns.
1) To find a subject in a sentence we can ask who or what the sentence is
about.
• Who is the first sentence about? Hamid
• Who is the second sentence about? The man
• What is the third sentence about? The book
• Who is the fourth sentence about? My dad
5
A complete and meaningful sentence begins with a capital letter and ends
with a period.
2) To find the verb in a sentence we can ask what the sentence says about
the subject.
• What does the first sentence say about Hamid? Hamid is jogging.
• What does the second sentence say about the man? The man doesn't speak.
• What does the third sentence say about the book? The book fell down.
• What does the fourth sentence say about my dad? My dad is hard-working.
