Students will formulate sentences using first and second
conditionals correctly and in context.
3. Warm-up activity: Let’s talk!
You will be working in pairs.
Decide who is student A and who will be student B.
Student A has to talk to student B for 2 minutes about the topic given.
After that, student A sits with a different student B and gives the exact
same talk but this time has 1 minute to do so.
Then, it is time for students B to talk to a student A for 2 minutes about
the topic given.
Finally, student B also has to find a different student A to perform the
exact same talk for 1 minute.
4. What is the difference
between…?
If I have enough money, I’ll buy something to
eat.
If I had enough money, I would buy a car.
5. FIRST CONDITIONAL
We use first conditional to talk about things that
might happen. (50%)
There is a real possibility that this condition will
happen.
6. First conditional examples
If he is late, we will have to go without him.
We will be in serious trouble if my mother knows about this.
Sometimes, we use shall, can or may instead of will, for
example: If it's sunny this afternoon, we can play tennis.
7. SECOND CONDITIONAL
We use it to talk about things in the future that
are probably not going to happen. (10%)
Imaginary situations.
There is an unreal possibility that the condition
will happen.
8. Second conditional examples
I would buy a big house if I won the lottery.
If there were no hungry people in this world, it would be a
much better place.
Sometimes, we use should, could or might instead of would,
for example: If I won a million dollars, I could stop working.
