2. Language
This magazine uses quite clean
language although a lot of the
language points to negativity or a
negative past for example ‘Everything
you know is wrong’ or ‘back from the
brink’ this might link to the idea that
a particular group had a rough past.
Also on alternative rock magazine
front covers there tends to be a lot of
words linked to violence such as
‘knock them over’ or ‘blood on the
dance floor’ in this magazines case’
This shows me that in my magazine I
should not be scared of adding words
that are linked to this sort of thing on
my magazine as it appears to be the
norm and may even be expected
because and of the audience and
what they enjoy. The most likely would
think in a similar way to what is being
shown on the magazine this is
probably why it is shown on the front
cover of magazines.
3. Language
This magazine shows some swearing
in this case the word ‘f*ck’ this shows
that this genre of magazine
(Rock/Alternative rock) does not have a
sensitive audience. Although the
language is censored it is still clear
what the word is. The fact that the word
was censored shows that the magazine
company may be trying to appeal to a
wider audience. Although people that
are into this music type will most likely
swear as well and therefore the use of
language like this would appeal to them
and possible give them the impression
that they are similar to the artists. Also
the fact that the band is swearing
might make in impression on the
audience causing them to use the same
language if they enjoy the music or look
up to the artist themselves.
4. Language
This magazine uses a lot of
language linked to violence
and intimidation this gives the
band an almost ‘hard core’
image. This use of language
might be used to appeal to
the audience or to represent a
particular band and highlight
their image and how they
think.. Examples of
intimidation related words are
, kicks-off, dangerous, afraid’
Even the colours used are
supporting this language and
making this group seem
‘dangerous’
5. Conclusion
After analysing these magazines I have found that
rock/alternative rock magazine use a lot of language linked to
violence or language that is loud and intimidating. Swearing is
allowed but should be censored out. When making my magazine I
will be aware of this use of language and try to make a product
that follows general rules about language when all the magazine
pages are being made.
