Why Is Pride a Sin? Pride is viewed as a great sin and rebellion against God because it presumes to possess excellence and glory that belong to God alone. The danger of pride is that most people are unaware of their pridefulness
3. Pride as the first
sin
Often when Christians think of the
first sin, they think of Adam and
Eve and the Fall in the Garden of
Eden. While this is indeed the first
human sin, it is not the first
recorded sin in Scripture.
hIt was Pride that changed angels
into devils; it is humility that makes
men as angels. - St. Augustine
5. The fallen angels
are named after
entities from both
Christian and
Pagan mythology,
such as Moloch,
Chemosh, Dagon,
Belial, Beelzebub
and Satan himself.
• Lucifer became so
impressed with his own
beauty, intelligence,
power, and position that
he began to desire for
himself the honor and
glory that belonged to
God alone. This pride
represents the actual
beginning of sin in the
universe. It made the
Satan from Seraphim .

7. Punishment of
God
• What the weak head with
strongest bias rules, Is pride,
the never-failing vice of fools.
• — Alexander Pope, An Essay on
Criticism, line 203.
8. Pride cannot always manifest itself
clearly, it can be hidden under
different
masks
• unwillingness to listen to people .
• Anger
• Seeing yourself as better than others
(Luke 7:36-50)
• Having an inflated view of your
importance, gifts, and abilities
• Being jealous or envious
• Perfectionism.
• Etc .
9. Is Pride Really a Sin?
pride, like other human emotions, is
part of our evolutionary heritage,
helping us to survive and thrive in
cooperative societies by inspiring us
to be the best humans we can be.
“Pride makes us care about how
others see us and—just as
important—how we see ourselves,”
she writes. “It makes us want to feel
good about ourselves and make
sure others look up to us, admire us,
and see us as competent and
powerful.”
10. Proper self-esteem is a barometer that rises
and falls with the quality of one’s life. Good
people should feel good about themselves;
bad people should not.
• Vanity, conceit, and
arrogance disrupt and disorder
individual lives, families, and
communities. Given common
confusions, however, Christian
social workers and therapists
must try to help people
understand the true nature of
pride and humility.
11. Pride as a
motivation
• In other words, authentic pride might
take work, but it’s worth it. If we continue
to use pride as motivation to better
ourselves and to help our communities—
not to build up our own egos—we will not
only enjoy prestige, but we will help make a
better future for everyone.
