Róber Bachinski is a biologist, master in public health and environment and PhD student of the Postgraduate Program on Science and Biotechnology in the Fluminense Federal University (PPBI/UFF), Brazil. In his PhD, Róber is developing research on 3D cell culture models, models for neuro-toxicology and neuro-pharmacology and alternatives for uses in the scientific education.

Each and every professor must know alternatives to
animal testing and classes; no student should learn
from the suffering and death of animals. Professors
and students can do the education and scientific
development in a humane way.

How to do it?
Step by step
1. Quantitative survey research contacting course
coordinations for explore the animal use and
alternatives in each course.
2. Classify courses by animal use
• No animal use
• Use of alternatives
• Use of animals
1. Mapping and analyzing the curriculum of animal
use and alternatives, contacting professors
23. Mapping the animal use for undergraduate classes in Brazil and spreading alternative methods for
training and education

Practical results
1. Understand the animal use in education in Brazil
2. Disclose the map and analysis of animal use and
alternatives
3. Search and spread alternative classes on an
ebook format
24.
25. Incentive Policies and Panorama of Alternative Methods to Animal Use in Brazil

Editor's Notes
Brazil is the 5th largest country in the World, the biggest in Latin America and in the South Hemisphere. While all the Europe, with 50 countries, has 10,180,000 km², only Brazil has 8,515,767 km². Also, Brazil is the 5th country in population, with more than 202 million people.
I classify target courses as courses on sciences which traditionally use animals for the curriculum, for classes as physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, surgery techniques, histology, toxicology and others.
We can do changes together. We can collaborate for big changes. In recent years, Brazil has been investing and supporting alternatives (for example, implementing the National Network on Alternative Methods and the Brazilian Committee for Validation of Alternative Methods). Brazil is supporting the controlling and studying the animal use, supporting the National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation. The National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation was created in 2008 and one of its aims is specifically to analyze the animal use in education and encourage alternatives. I want to thank here the Council for collaborating with this project, showing the interest to improve the humane education in Brazil. I'm sure that this collaboration is primordial to reach all regions in Brazil and to spread the alternatives to all courses.
