1.To talk about actions that happened at a specific time in
the past. Use a time word (yesterday, last...):
“Last year I took my exams”.
2. Something that happened in the past but not now:
"I lived in Asia for two years."
3. Talk about repeated actions in the past:
"When I was a child we always went to the beach for vacation."
The Simple Past Tense is used
PAST SIMPLE TENSE:
REGULAR VERBS
 Add –ed to most verbs
 Add “d” to verbs that end with “e”
› smile -> smiled
› bake -> baked
 If ‘consonant + y”, drop ‘y’, add ‘ied’
› carry -> carried
› study -> studied
 If ‘vowel + y”, add ‘ed’
› play -> played
 If end is one vowel and one consonant, double the
consonant and add ‘ed’
› drag -> dragged
› stop -> stopped

Irregular past verb forms must be learned because
they don’t follow any rule:

Use did not or didn’t + verb to make the past simple
tense negative: I didn’t work last summer.

Did you travel by boat last holidays?
Yes, I did.

PAST SIMPLE TENSE: REGULAR and IRREGULAR VERBS

prize in the contest. They played 5 shows each night
6 days a week. They made between $5 and $8 a night
 Michael released his 1st
solo single “Got to be There”
 In 1976 Michael and his family signed with Epic Records
 Michael became an actor in 1978 and stared in the movie “The
Wizards Of Oz” with Diana Ross
 The family was still the same and they were doing good for now…
but the family thought that Michael only had time for his solo career
 When Michael Jackson was 21 years old he decided to break away from
the family band and go from there
 He built his home and called it “Never land "because Peterpan was his
favorite TV show when he was younger
 He recorded his album “Thriller” in 1982.
 In May 1982, during the televised 25th anniversary of Motown, Michael
Jackson performed his version of the "moonwalk" dance which quickly
became his signature along side his one white-sequined
-Michael Jackson helped the poor people by giving them money and
helping them by donating food also. People look up to Michael Jackson
and they love his music and really, really loves how he dances.
-He had 3 children “Prince `Michael Jackson” born in 1997 and “Paris
Michael Katherine” was born in the same year too and “Prince Michael
II” his nickname is “Blanket”
-In 1988 Michael wrote his first autobiography
-He died at the age of 50 on
June 25,2009.
