2. I have decided initially to try this one as the style of outfit suits the overarching theme of my magazine. It
fits a lot of the general conventions of a fashion magazine model as well, such as being taken from a
mid-shot to encompass the fashion but also place focus on the face, also the face being centralised to
draw attention to it. The first picture needed a lot of cleaning up in photoshop to make him seem more
like a ’flawless’ model. Within photoshop, I turned down the brightness as I wasn’t a big fan of the harsh
lighting in the original and I removed any blemishes and imperfections to give him a more pristine look
3. Eventually I decided on using this photo instead as the red of the previous shot would've clashed with the
theme of colours I have planned for my front cover and there is also added effect and adherence to
convention with the direct mode of address used by the model. Again I modified the photos removing all
blemishes except this time the original was too dark and dull, so I fixed that.
4. For the next front page, due to the essence of a house style and similarities in running themes, it was
easier to find a photo that I felt would suit the feel that I was going for with my magazine. In keeping with
the design brief, my next model is of a different ethnicity to represent different social groups however the
age is similar to other model and this helps to solidify the target audience of AB 16-25-year old's. I kept
with the idea of direct mode of address and thought a stark contrast between fashion and the models
colour would help emphasize both elements of the face and the fashion. In post editing, I emphasized
the contrast and made the skin of the model flawless as well as whitened the eyes.
5. MOCK UPS
• This was the original idea for the first front
cover, with the company logo as the 'S' in
the title and a burst of colours to capture
attention.
• There is clearly not enough information,
the layout is disorganized and the colour
schemes do not mix well together at all.
• These are things to fix for the next mock up
• I will change the picture to the black jacket
and direct mode of address one, and the
backgroud will be slightly darker with a
more subtle colur scheme that works
aesthetically.
6. MOCK UPS CONTINUED
• As my next mock up, I have drastically changed
the colour scheme to have much more subtlety
and it adds to the aesthetic and feel that I
wanted to give off
• The formattign is also all sorted out with the
collumns alligning and all text being visible
alongside the model himself
• However, some tweaks can be made such as
making sure font is consistent across the page.
As there is serif and sans-serif fonts on
different parts of the page.
• There is also the issue of the 'S' in the title
which I don’t particularly like as I feel it doesn't
fit well with the rest of the front cover.
7. MOCK UPS CONTINUED
• This is the final piece after having analysed
and made changed on previous versions
• I have gotten rid of the 'S' from the title and
replaced it with something that suits the
colour scheme of the page
• The text is much cleaner and better
formatted with no text running over the
model's clothes when not necessary
• The fonts are now consistent aswell with no
drastic changes such as with accents and
serif and sans serif fonts.
8. MOCK UPS CONTINUED
• As I had my first finalised front page to
base my second off, there was not
much room for error as the house style
consistent across both allowed me to
format what I wanted to achieve much
easier
• However there is some room for
change to try and make more
consistency across the two front covers
to make sure they are distinguishably
from the same company.
9. MOCK UPS CONTINUED
• The changes that I made were
predominantly centered around the
'pages of' part of the front cover as it
is now consistent with the first front
cover that I made
• This is the final front cover for the
second issue of my magazine.
10. MOCK UPS CONTINUED (CONTENTS
• Falls in line with the conventions of
column formatting to make the
stories and contents of the magazine
easily navigable
• There is however only one image on
the page
• There isn’t any anchoring text to the
image
11. MOCK UPS CONTINUED (CONTENTS)
• I have added a caption to add anchorage to
the main image of the contents page
• There is also a second image now on the
contents page
• There have been some story changes such
as removing stories that are less to do with
fashion such as the Lady Gaga story and
replaced with more suitable stories such as
make up that add anchorage to the image
of the make up towards the bottom right
• The logo in the top left has also seen
change as the serif font was not in line with
the house style of my magazine
