[Playworks AmeriCorps Coaches with Junior Coaches] A Playworks AmeriCorps coach provides
elementary schools with the Playworks Junior Coach program as well as community and family
involvement by acquiring volunteers and leading and initi community engagement activities.

hours of service throughout the

4. Playworks AmeriCorps Member:
• A Playworks AmeriCorp Member is responsible for bringing play
and physical activity into low-income schools to help create a
positive environment for learning and teaching. This also includes
Program and Administrative duties.

Coach Amy Martin
The 2016-2017 school year is Coach Amy’s second year as a
Playworks AmeriCorps Coach. Here is what Coach Amy has
to say about her experience:
(1) What was the most rewarding aspect of being a Playworks AmeriCorps
Coach and why?
The most rewarding part of being a Playworks AmeriCorps Coach is definitely the
daily positive interactions with the students. I can see the difference I make at
the school, but I can also see the positive impact the kids have on me. We are all
facing challenging things, and are growing in the process.
(2) What skills did you gain as a Playworks AmeriCorps Coach?
My year as a Playworks AmeriCorps Coach helped me gain and strengthen many
skills, including: public speaking, volunteer recruitment, event planning, time
management, and critical thinking.
(3) Why did you want to be a Playworks AmeriCorps Coach?
I wanted to be a Playworks AmeriCorps Coach because I missed working in youth
development. I feel a calling to serve others and strengthen community, and this
job seemed to fit perfectly.
