The document discusses plans for a new music magazine called AMP. It will focus on alternative rock music and have a biweekly publication schedule at a price of £3.49 per issue. This allows for quality content over a two week period at a lower price than monthly magazines. The target reader enjoys live alternative rock, heavy metal, and dark metal music and prefers to see bands perform live rather than listen to recordings. Each issue will include articles on bands, upcoming artists, reviews of live music venues, free merchandise, advertisements, new music and album releases, the editor's column, and a subscription page.
2. The Name
In order to make a music magazine stand out it is also important to have a name to reflect the general tone for
the magazine. Therefore, after much thinking and deliberating I have decided to use the name AMP for my
masthead to my music magazine. The reason behind this, is because short lettered names always work
well in standing out in whatever it is that the name is representing. With the lettering of AMP, there are
endless possibilities to create a magazine that has a diversification in what the magazine could represent,
although I have decided to make an alternative rock based magazine; hence the title AMP being a fitting
name for the magazine. Other possibilities consisted of Sound Wave and Audible; but with these names, it
could be a struggle to leave enough space to highlight a flush, professional looking music magazine.
3. The Price and Frequency of Publication
On the whole, looking at other music magazines there is a certain correlation between the price of the
magazine and the frequency of publication. Usually, if the magazine is a monthly magazine then the price
of the magazine regularly exceeds £5. This is because the magazine will be full of content that has been
concentrated through out that month. The publisher of the magazine can also spend time in assuring
quality materials to make sure that the magazine is worth its requiring price. On the other hand,
magazines that are weekly produced are relatively small in terms of the content that is in it and the quality
of the paper used is not necessarily that good. All of this is done however to produce a magazine that will
only cost a customer around £3. This is why I have decided to aim to get the best of both worlds by having
a music magazine that publishes every two weeks; this will mean the magazine will have a good amount of
content to read and also have less of the cost of paying for a music magazine that only publishes each
month. Therefore I will only charge £3.49 for the magazine. Also, in the time of the two week period
between each publication of the magazine, this would enable me to use a high quality paper so that my
readers will be able to feel like they are reading a high quality music magazine (which it would be).
4. Reader Profile
AMP’s average reader is the one that looks well beyond the modern days sorry excuse for chart music, to
identify true musicians with true talent. Guitars, Drums, Bass, Crowd surfing and the plug in encores are
what our readers look for when attending music venues of those alternative rock bands that do not need a
wild stage production to ensure a good time for their listeners, only special acceptations for those mega
successful alternative rock bands like MUSE who use stage production and years of nurtured talent and
originality to get them where they are today. Our readers are not those with fluffy pink dice wrapped
around their rear view mirror; our readers are the ones still using the C.Ds that refuse to give in despite
been scratched to oblivion. Light hearted, classical, fun music……. No thank you! Plug in those leads, turn
the AMP up to 11 and add that double pedal bass drum, its time to tear these walls down!!!
