2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The front cover of my magazine is the layout of a typical music magazine. The name of the magazine is in the top left hand of the corner which probably half the music magazines have today. Where the bar code goes usually varies but I have decided to put it in the bottom right hand corner. Usually the price of a magazine is by the barcode but I have put the month of the issue and the price in the top right hand corner of the page. Running along the bottom of the page there is a sentence which tells what's inside the magazine also the headings on each side of the page this uses the normal conventions of a magazine. I have a used a picture of two people instead of just one which I think develops more so than challenges the normal conventions of a magazine. My contents page I think challenges the normal conventions of contents pages . During my research I didn’t come across any contents page s that look like this. I decided to do it this way to be different. At the top of my magazine it reads Hillsong special and contents small . Usually contents pages have the date on tit or inside this week, as this issue is a special my magazine does not say these things as the specials come out monthly underneath “Hillsong special” there are six pictures and then on the left hand sides read the features in the left and regulars on the right then what is in m y magazine is listed under the heading features and regulars . My double page spread also challenges conventions of normal double page spreads as most of the time double page spreads usually have pictures or a main picture on the page where as mine has no picture at all. On the 1st page there is each album heading and the songs on that album underneath it, and it zig zags down the page each heading is a different colour usually on this page there is a picture of the person the article is featuring where as this article does not feature any main person as it is an album review. On the 2nd page the title reads “Hillsong Youth” down the page the introduction to the article starts the background on both pages are black . I decided to not use a picture because its so different that it would catch the readers attention.
3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? My magazine represents the social group by the language, photographs I have used. The language of my magazine is targeted toward my audience. My magazine is called “Love” I called it this because my magazine is for a niche audience, its a Christian magazine and the foundation of Christianity is love. The language used will be standard English so will be understood by everyone some colloquial language would probably be used but I will be local generalized colloquial language which would be understood by its readers. As it is a “Hillsong special” As Hillsong is many people so I found some people in my own church and took pictures of them to use on my magazine. This is how I have represented Hillsong and this will connect with the readers
4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? My magazine is targeted at a niche audience, Christian People who do not listen to secular music . So I think that Future Publishing would publish my magazine as they specialize in specialist magazines such as Guitar or Total Guitar, I think there is a gap in the market that specialize in magazines about Christian music and I know a lot of people who would buy a Christian music magazine my elf included if there was one on the market that was actually copy and not just online. I don’t think Bauer or IPC would publish my magazine because its such a specialist magazine. My Magazine could be sold anywhere as there are churches and Christians in many areas in the UK and this magazine covers many genres such as rock, RnB, jazz, choir , grime etc.
5. Who would be the audience for your media product? Target Audience Females – 50% Male – 50% Age – 15 – 25 ABC1 – C2DE Reader Profile Samantha – Jesus Junkie Samantha(18, living in Belsize Park) is a full time college student who goes to church weekly she is in the ministry, she is in choir, praise and worship and dance ministry. She loves to hang out with her friends who are mainly from church. She joined the church when she was 12 and has been born again ever since. Samantha works in ‘Westfield’ in white city and is part of the Jesus junkies. She likes all different genres of music especially music like Hillsong
6. How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted my audience by the language I used, my magazine is called “Love” I called it this because my magazine is for a niche audience, its a Christian magazine and the foundation of Christianity is love. The headings I have chosen will also attract my audience, as I have used headings such as “Joel Houston” and Brooke Fraser” which will appeal to my audience as my audience will know who they are. Using everyday language will also attract my reader as it is language they relate with I also tried to attract my audience by using colours, the colours I used are slightly girly but I think it would appeal to both genders. Also to attract my audience I have put on my magazine “win tickets to Hillsong conference 2011” this will appeal to them and make them want to by the magazine. Another way I have tried to appeal through my audience is the photographs I have used on my front cover and contents page. I have pictures of happy people which will attract the type of audience I want for my magazine
7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? During this process of constructing my product I have learnt about and how to use many different computer programs. I have learnt how to use Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe InDesign CS4, this was the first time I've ever used any of these programs so it was hard to get the hang of but I eventually got it. I learnt the Google is the most efficient search engine. I learnt how to use the blogging site ‘Tumblr’ and ‘Blogger’ I learnt how to use a site named ‘Slidshare’ this helped my work on to my blog I also learnt how to use ‘Picnik’ the online editing site to help edit my pictures. I think learning how to use these sites and programs will benefit me in the future with future school projects and thing of my own.
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I found the Preliminary task quite hard as this was my first time using InDesign. As I progressed through the task of making my actual product, I changed from using InDesign to using Photoshop as I found it was easier to use and navigate. Looking back on the preliminary task I see the usefulness of it and how it helped us become acquainted with the programs because if they had given us the final project first, my final product would not be as good as it is now.
