1. Grade School Experiences in Flexible Learning: An Observation
The pandemic years (2020 onwards) is a challenging part of life where there are several
problems encountered such as the experiences of the learners with the current educational
situation. The flexible learning which known as the “distant learning”1 was implemented by the
DepEd in proper delivering of the lectures as well as with the needs of the learners. Though there
are several adjustments being considered to push through with the project where teachers and
learners need to take advantage of the technology in using for the learning environment purposes.
There are many instances for this such as the following- a.) training of the teachers in using the
computers, laptops, social media and the like, b.) lack of monitoring on the part of the teachers in
terms of modular approach and c.) considering the adjustments of the learners from face to face
classroom to “digital classroom”.2
With those challenges then there are several inclinations on the grade school teacher
experiences on how to demonstrate their PowerPoint presentations to their students. Though the
technology is already there and being used indifferent platforms but there are challenges
confronted by the teachers such as their thinking on the progress of their assigned learners to them.
It is better to give more chances of advancement where the teachers will train before they used the
“flexible learning”. On the part of the learners then guidelines should be issued by proper
authorities to handle the situation in learning environment.
These experiences of the teachers are enough with proper orientation and training as well
as their exposure in handling classes especially the grade school learners. Though it is a tough job
but this will be a great task of the teachers in presenting their lectures to the students where they
have to guide fairly as well as to treat them as part of their academic fervor. Lastly, the need to
identify the strengths and weaknesses can be a great pleasure on the part of the teachers which a
great opportunity to teach the young learners. Every meeting counts in the flexible learning and
thus, the opportunity might be used in proper way and treatment. Technology at par is good to

have the same common goals- to master the subject and perform the tasks scholarly.
3. Challenges among Teachers during Pandemic: An Analysis
Teachers are among one of the flexible professions even during pandemic times. The
Department of Education (DepEd) already imposed the flexible learning3 among the teachers
which they will deliver their lectures with the aid of the internet and computers. Though the
intention are good but there are certain challenges encountered by the teachers and among these
are the following- a.) familiarization of the use of the gadgets such as laptops and tablets, b.)
adjustment with their tasks as well as managing the online students, c.) counseling among the
students who are in need, d.) work-family balance relationships. These are among the main
concerns of the on-line teachers in performing their tasks.
The most important among the concerns is the familiarization of the teachers when it comes
to the computers and gadgets. Since the country is under the quarantine rules then most of the
teachers in public or in the private are working at home, Moreover, struggles coming from the
teachers which are unfamiliar with the use of the computers are quite triggers with the
“cyberphobic reactions4”. Though some teachers are trainable when it comes with their knowledge
in dealing with the use of technology, they still have struggles with the students to verify if they
can catch up with the lessons.
Another challenge occurred with the teachers on-line is the adjustment of schedules with
the learners since this will be one of the tasks being penetrated by the teachers. Time adjustments
as well as the setting of the “Digital Classroom” is another added problem encountered by the
teachers. Furthermore, with those problems encountered and trouble shoot by the teachers then
this will be the justification that teachers are the “noblest profession’ even the times of pandemic.
In a nutshell, teachers must adjust their linings and knowledge in dealing with the students with
the aid of technology not as a punishment but mere a challenge.
