2. Research
Within the research section of this project, I researched into my clients brief, I am
working with the Yorkshire wildlife trust. For this I researched into a profile. I then
continued to research the geographic of the area my profiler lived in. This area
was on Hull. From my research this area is mostly the working class. However, the
area is also family orientated and have many single parents. This links to the
profile I was given of ‘Karen’. This means I was needing to trying and make my
infographics children friendly. With the area being underprivileged, this empowers
change with in the community. Karen has strong views on Brexit and the NHS.
This links into the brief the client sent me, as they are wanting to encourage
people to contact there local MPs. Karen is one individual who would be interested
in change, to better the life of her children. I feel like I achieved this section of
research well. This is because I began to really understand my target audience. I
feel like what I could improve is having a better understanding of the categories
people are classed under. For example; working class etc. This would of helped
me gain a more in-depth understanding which would of made my work more
effective. I do feel like the research helped with my project, because it gave me a
clear understanding on what my target audience wanted from a infographic. This
helped influence my decisions on what to include. This is why I researched into
different infographics to gain a understanding of the different conventions it
contains and who they are trying to target. From this is helped me decide what
styles to go for whilst producing my infographics for my client.
3. Planning
Within the planning section of this project I conducted experiments to see which
style was most effective for my project and target audience. To start with I
created mind maps which spread out my ideas. This helped me lay out my idea
ready for development. I feel like I did the mind maps well because they helped
with what needed to be included and researched into for the project. From this, it
made it clear what styles I needed to experiment with to target my audience. I
decided to go with a style that related to the experiments but I also decided to
go with a different geometric style which was included on my final production. I
feel like I should of experimented more with shapes so that in my production it
does not take as long to plan. However, the styles I experimented with helped
me create the MP’s in a time effective way. This became effective because I had
more time to concentrate on other aspects like font.
I feel like in planning I could have experimented more with colours and font so
that it doesn't postpone the whole production process. This would have made
my project more effective towards my audience and would make my time
management better. This is because i would have more time to decide what
colours would be project my message across clearly. I feel like overall, i could
have planned more effectively. This is because when it came to production i
spent more time with figuring out the colours and font choses i wanted to
include. This is because i didn’t experiment on these sections as much as i
would of liked to.
4. Time Management
The time management in my project was effective due to finishing the project on time. However, i
did come across a few hurdles which prevented me making any changes to my overall project. To
start with i made a schedule for the production section, which i followed. This was effective
because i constructed the graphics i needed to do before deciding where to place them on the
infographics. However, as i carried on with production i came across a few hurdles. I created a fox
geometric style designed animal, which wasn’t actually needed for the infographic. This delayed
time as i needed to create another animal to replace it. I made sure to include the fox so it wasn’t a
waste of production work, which allowed me to created the infographic ‘stand united with the
animals’. This worked effective but it did delay my overall time. I feel like my time management
would have been better if i planned more effectively. This is because when it came to production, i
spent a lot of time figuring out what colours would work best to present my ideas on, as well as
what font would work effectively for my target audience.
I feel like i should have experimented with different fonts by using photoshop to make unique
textures and depth. This would have made my work more effective and it would of sped my time up
for production.
5. Technical Qualities (Comparing)
Font:
The font used on the infographic I am comparing mine too is a soft, elegant one. This
adds a soft touch to the overall infographics which makes the whole infographic
casual. Where as, the fonts used on mine are harsh and assertive. This adds a more
stern and serious approach. I have positioned the fonts rather central so that its
military styled.
Illustrations/Graphics
The illustrations used for one of my infographics is it all link into the environment.
This is because it helps symbolises the fact and information written in the center of
the page. This allows the infographic to have a more visual aspect, which appeals
to my target audience more. This also appears on the infographic I am comparing it
to, it shows a lot of visuals and graphics. This will be because they are wanting to
attract a younger target audience. I’ve also made the symbols a neutral, plain
colour so that it doesn't take the attention away from the text and information.
However, I tried to make the MP illustrations more vibrant. This is so when the
audience looks back on this infographic they remember the clear image of the MPs
standing united.
Overall I feel like the technical qualities of my infographics are effective and appeal to my target
audience well. From comparing my work to an existing infographic, I do feel like I should of included
more visuals for my information and facts. This is because younger audiences appeal more to quick
and easy graphs. It makes the advertisement more interesting due to containing less writing. This is
something I will consider looking more into when it comes to creating a infographic in the future.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
Title:
The colour of the title is red. This is because it’s a dominant colour, which will
immediately grab the audiences attention. The font used is powerful but funky.
This allows the infographic to be serious but in a fun way. This allows children
to be intrigued by the poster as well. This will encourage my target audience to
pursue contacting their local MPs.
Logo:
The logo is included so that this infographics is identified with the
Yorkshire wild life trust. This will allow the audience to then
continue there research into the company.
Graphics:
The graphics included are of two MP’S, both male and females.
This is to help spread equality. I have also included a Geometric
style fox. This is because it is easy to identify as a fox is a easy
animal to identify. I have included this amongst the MPs because I
wanted to link the graphics to the title ‘ Stand united with the
animals’.
I’ve included a bow tie to the male graphic to make it seem like he
Is fun. This again appeals more to children, even if it is about a
serious issue.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
Title/Logo:
The title for this infographic is the font Yorkshire wildlife trust
already use. I feel like it has a gentle touch which really reflect
what my message was for this infographic. The logo is also
placed in the corner so that this infographic is easily identified
with the Yorkshire wildlife.
Graphics:
The graphics i have used for the animals is a geometric style. This appeals
to my audience because the animals look innocent and easily identified. I
picked animals that are going extinct but included animals that you would
see in the local area of my audience. This is why i stuck with basic animals
rather than sea creature for example. I also included flowers to give the
effect of the environment. This adds another innocent touch to the overall
infographic. This is why i included grass and leafs in the background of the
infographic.
Information/Font:
The information i have included is heart hitting facts. This is because
it shows how drastically these animals are going extinct. The font i
used for this is a soft basic font. This is because it is a serious
matter, which i am trying to approach softly. This is so it connects
with my audience more effectively.
8. Aesthetic Qualities
Illustrations/Graphics:
The illustrations that I have included are all environmentally linked. For
example: the wind turbines is a natural way of producing electricity etc. I
chose to use grey because its neutral and blends in nicely with the blue
background. The blue background was inspired from my research on the
RSPB. This is because they attract a younger audience then the YWT. I also
included illustrations of MP’s so that the infographic has a clear indication of
the politics involved in signing the petition. I also made the illustrations fun.
This is one reason why I included a bow tie.
Font/Information:
The font I have used Is a harsh font. This is so it helps portray what will
happen if the audience doesn't’t stand up for wildlife protection rights. This
font is also bold which shows it’s a powerful way of getting the message
across. This is why I used a red so that it made the fonts more dominant.
However, I used a softer font when it came to ‘contacting your MP’. This is
to show some peace about the overall infographic. The information I have
included is hardcore facts. I included facts that I feel would link into my
target audiences area and profile. This is why I included facts on the Brexit
issue and climate change.
