2. Nine Inch Nails – The Slip
• This cover is very simple by using just black and white
with simple art. The digipak has very simple features that
are typical for a digipak, such as the bonus CD, bonus art
and with song titles.
• The bands recognizable but simple logo works well with
the colour pallet used in the digipak. The art would make
an avid fan want to buy the digipak more than an online
download, the normal CD or illegally downloading.
3. Coldplay – Viva La Vida
• The Coldplay digipak for their Viva La Vida uses references to the French
Revolution of 1787-99. This is due to the album name that accompanies the
album photo of a pre-modern battle with a French flag being held up in pride.
• The photos of the band at their tour gives the nostalgic effect for the buyer as
it gives a connection for the band and its band.
• The digipak does have conventional features, such as the bonus CD, lyric
book and song titles.
4. Biffy Clyro – Opposites
• Biffy Clyro used a digipak to sell their album; Opposites to
their fans. The digipak was also available as a vinyl copy.
This is to make the album and design much more original
and give it a USP.
• Both copies; the CD and Vinyl versions are available from
an Amazon pre-order. The CD version have 3 CDs and
have a fold out digipak. The vinyl version has slips for
each vinyl and a special poster/page.
5. Rihanna - Loud
• Loud uses a lot of conventions of pop digipaks as it has
Rihanna as the sole focus of the covers in both the cover,
and the inside foldout.
• The bright colours used reflects the upbeat theme of the
album as a whole. With “Only Girl In The World” being the
main single, it is a perfect replica of the digipak as it uses
the same setting and the same make-up and hair that
Rihanna has in the video.
6. Eminem - Relapse
• Eminem’s Relapse has a lot of detail in the digipak, as it contains pages with
lots of detail about the artist and the album.
• This feature allows the buyer to feel like they have a unique and special item
about the artist they love. This also makes someone like Eminem; who is a
world famous star, feel relatable to his fans as they gain some kind of inside
knowledge.
• The themes used on the digipak reflect the darkness that the album is about
and the singles individual messages about the artist, and this personal
songwriting is what Eminem has become renowned for.
