This pitch presentation proposes three ideas for a drama genre music video project:
1) A dark, gloomy story of a man who blames himself for his partner's suicide, told in a nonlinear narrative. Locations will be used to create atmosphere.
2) A lighthearted story following a man's daily routine, which changes when he finds someone to share it with consistently. Gender roles and relationship themes will be represented.
3) A post-heartbreak story of a reckless man drinking, taking drugs, and fighting before breaking down and realizing his actions are covering his inner feelings. Mental health, tragedy, and love will be represented through subtle visuals.
2. Genre
I have decided upon the genre of Drama for my coursework, creating a music
video along side an album cover and a poster. Also I am interpreting other genres
to cross over as consistent themes throughout my product. These are romance
and tragedy.
3. Target Audience
For my three individual ideas they all share the same target audience of 15-30
years of age, non-gender specific.
For pitch and idea one I intend to target more of a older teenage audience as in
initial ideas I plan for it to have more age specific relating themes and also this
particular idea will be more explicit in comparison to my other two.
I plan to leave a small conclusion in the end of each of my ideas music videos to
convey a sub-textual message from the production.
4. Pitch one
Two young lovers separated by a tragedy. The journey of a man who’s lost his love
in a suicided tragedy, he blames himself and she blamed herself. A story
connoting mental health, tragedy and love.
A dark themed gloomy setting following the reckless journey of a man who
blames himself for the suicide of his partner. The narrative follows a non-linear
structure often rotating between shots and scenes of the man, the man and his
partner together and also them women alone in a distressed state. I am undecided
of a specific ending but I plan to conclude this specific idea with the man finding
out she wanted him to know it was not his fault / find out her death was not his
fault.
5. Pitch one
The music video will be filmed in multiple locations as I plan to maximize the mis-
en-scene aspect by filming in a mass of locations to add to the atmosphere and
give me a great vary of possible shots and scenes to be used to furthermore
create the cinematic mis-en-scene I am intending for.
The mass majority of the shots filmed I plan to be during a dark time of day or
night time, to create the genre conventional atmosphere.
7. Pitch two
For my second idea it is still under the dramatic music video genre but for this idea I
plan to film it as more of a lighthearted less explicit sub-textual piece of work.
A short story in a music video following a man and his journey of his same daily
routine. This routine doesn't’t change throughout the video but it changes when he
finds someone who stays and they develop a routine together.
Following a mans daily routine and it stays the same with one exception. The partner
he shares it with changes throughout the video representing that these women are not
a factor affecting his life. In the latter stages, he continues his routine as normal but the
female partner stays the same, showing that she is compatible with him as she stays
and they slowly mold and develop their own routine in sync with one another.
8. Pitch two
For this idea the representation aspects will follow male and female gender roles
and stereotypes as well as a consistent representation of a relationship theme.
For the aesthetic of the video the lighting will gradually brighten over time until he
stays with the one consistent partner.
10. Idea three
My third idea for my coursework is another music video but this time following
only one character and his reckless journey post heartbreak.
Post heartbreak, the narrative follows a man in a reckless state and shows his
uncaring decisions that come from the lack of his wiling he has after his lost.
This narrative follows a man on a reckless night, where he does not care for
anything that happens to him. Post-heartbreak he goes out looking for trouble,
drinking, consuming drugs and fighting. He even nearly ends his night with a
women he has no care for until he finally breaks down as he realizes his actions
are a to cover up his inner feelings and what he misses.
11. Idea three
I am yet to add any specific representation onto the initial ideas for my third idea
but I plan to add a mass of sub-textual representations embedded within the
visuals of this idea. I hope to cover mental health, tragedy and love within these
embedded sub-textual representations to give a visceral affect and a message.
Also I have presented the man as a counter-type of his situation as he is going to
be very emotional where as man are stereotypically not in the way in general
media presentation.
