CERTIFICATE IV IN
DISABILITY
Course Description
This version was released in CHC Community
Services Training Package release 2.0 and meets the
requirements of the 2012 Standards for Training
Packages. Change in packaging rules. Significant
changes to core. Minimum work requirement of 120
hours.
Qualification Description
• This qualification reflects the role of workers
in a range of community settings and clients’
homes, who provide training and support in a
manner that empowers people with
disabilities to achieve greater levels of
independence, self-reliance, community
participation and wellbeing.
• Workers promote a person-centered
approach, work without direct supervision
and may be required to supervise and/or
coordinate a small team.
• To achieve this qualification, the candidate
must have completed at least 120 hours of
work as detailed in the Assessment
Requirements of the units of competency.
Your Career
The following employment pathways are
available to learners who complete this
qualification:
• Behavioral support officer
• Development Officer
• Project Officer (Life Enhancement Team)
• Disability Officer- day support
• Residential Care Officer
• Disability support officer/worker
Assessment methods
• Projects/Research Reviews
• Underpinning Knowledge questioning
• Direct Observations and Demonstration
• Written Assignment and case studies
• Simulated workplace activities
• Workplace Practicals
• Supervisor reports
Admission Requirements
• Age: must be 17 years or over
• Undertake LLN test: Learning,
reading, writing, oral communication
and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are
desirable to participate in the course.
• Fees : Refer to our Course Fees page.
Practical Placement Requirements
• To achieve this qualification the candidate must
have completed at least 120 hours of work
placement as detailed in the assessment
requirements of the units of competency.
• If a student is unable to find appropriate work
placement, Hammond Institute will assist in
finding the work placements.
Conclusion
• The courses of certificate iv in disability
offered are mostly disability-oriented and help
in the overall grooming of a candidate in order
to transform him into a proficient trainer or
educator in handling disable people.
