This slide presents the basic introduction about the workshop , workshop technology and the safety that need to be followed during different tasks in workshop.

2. Syllabus
1. General Safety Consideration (2 hour)
2. Hand working Operation (1 hours)

4. Workshop Technology
a room or building in which goods are manufactured or repaired
Workshop technology deals with different process by which component of a
machine or equipment are made
Hand working operation
Drilling
Machining
Sheet metal work
Metal joining
Casting
Deformation
5. Accident
• An accident is an unplanned, uncontrolled event caused by unsafe acts
and unsafe conditions
• What are the causes of accidents?
Carelessness and ignorance
Poor housekeeping
Loose clothing
Improper use of tools
Inaccurate setting-up of machines
6. • Always listen carefully to the teacher and follow instructions.
• Do not run in the workshop, you could ‘bump’ into another pupil and cause an
accident.
• Know where the emergency stop buttons are positioned in the workshop. If you
see an accident at the other side of the workshop you can use the emergency stop
button to turn off all electrical power to machines.
• Always wear an apron as it will protect your clothes and hold loose clothing such
as ties in place.
• Wear good strong shoes.
Safety
The condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury.
Personal safety
Job Safety
Machine safety
7. • When attempting practical work all tools should be put away.
• Bags should not be brought into a workshop as people can trip over them.
• When learning how to use a machine, listen very carefully to all the instructions
given by the teacher. Ask questions, especially if you do not fully understand.
• Do not use a machine if you have not been shown how to operate it safely by the
teacher.
• Always be patient, never rush in the workshop.
• Always use a guard when working on a machine.
• Keep hands away from moving/rotating machinery.
• Use hand tools carefully, keeping both hands behind the cutting edge.
• Report any damage to machines/equipment as this could cause an accident.
8. First Aid
• Emergency care/treatment given to a victim of sudden injury or illness
before more skilful or professional medical care is given/accessed
• First aid may save a life or improve victim’s condition from worsening
Procedures:
1.Don’t panic: psychological support is essential
2. Remember the ABC’s of life support
Airway open
Breathing restored
Circulation maintained
3. Check for bleeding
9. 4. Look for signs of shock and broken bones (fractures)
5. Get professional medical help quickly.
6. Loosen any clothing that may restrict victim’s breathing or interfere with
circulation.
7. Never give an unconscious person anything by mouth.
8. Do not move injured persons unless situation is life threatening.
