This document provides information about flow meter calibration services offered by PCD Flowmeter. It discusses why flow meter calibration is important, as small measurement errors in large flows can result in significant financial losses. It then summarizes the scope of calibration services including flow rate and line size ranges. Finally, it provides details about the calibration of various flow meter types including electromagnetic flow meters, turbine flow meters and others.
2. Flow Meter Calibration
Why Calibrate
The total amount of the material flowing through a
custody transfer flow meter is large in quantity.
Especially with the current oil and gas prices,
expensive chemicals, industrial fuels and large size
flow meters, a small measuring error can have
large economical effects. For example, an oil
measurement with an error of 0.5% can result in
million dollar losses. Thus it is more important than
ever before that all flow measurements are
accurate and reliable.

4. Working Principle
The mechanical part of turbine flow meter consists of
turbine rotor assembly in which turbine rotor is made
of magnetic material and of aerodynamic shape so as
to convert the flow energy into rotational energy.
The shaft of the turbine rotor is made up of tungsten
carbide which rolls on the bush bearing. The velocity
of the fluid passing through line is directly
proportional to that of the rotational speed of the
turbine rotor.

6. Working Principle
Electromagnetic flow meters works on the principle
of Faraday’s Law of induction. According to the
faraday’s first law, “when the fluid’s having greater
conductivity than 5μS/cm flows through closed loop
of flow tube cuts the magnetic field generate by the
coil which results in the induction of voltage”.
Further, that voltage signal is sens by the electrode
which is mount on the wall of the flow tube. That
induced voltage signal is process by the electronic
transmitter to determine the flow. The generation of
voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of fluid.

8. Working Principle
Thermal flow meters use the thermal properties of the
fluid to measure the flow of a fluid flowing in a pipe or
duct. in a typical thermal role, TMFM measured amount of
heat is applied to the heater of the sensor. The electronics
uses the heat input and differential temperature
measurements to establish fluid flow in pipe l. Most
thermal flow meters are used to measure gas flow.
