Trailer evaluation q1
1. In what way does your media
products use, develop and challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. The first thing that I used on my trailer were:
• The opening screen and when researching
other trailers every trailer all had this on.
• I started my trailer by using the opening
credits and it then moved onto the
production company and then onto the
distribution company.
• I included all of this as it added that extra
bit of professionalism needed for my
trailer to look more like other trailers out
there.
3. USE
Things that I used:
• The ‘CCTV’ camera tracking on the students.
• I did this as it makes the students look vulnerable as they have already broken into college
and someone is watching them.
• I have also seen this a lot on other film trailers and so this is something that I really liked the
look of.
• I also used a long shot here to show the open spaces they are currently in but however as
soon as they enter the college it becomes much different as it is much smaller spaces.
• The final thing that I used was the low angle that I used on the students to make them look
vulnerable and in danger.
4. DEVELOP
The things that I had to develop on my trailer was the sounds:
• We was not allowed to use sound that was already used on other trailers or other music.
• So I had to create my own sounds on Garage band.
• I also created sound effects for the montage part of my trailer as it was fast paced editing so I
added a heart beat sound effect to try and add to the suspense and build tension to what is
going to happen to them.
• Another thing that I did was add voice overs to the trailer again to add that more realistic
feature and so that you can actually here the students in the college and hear what they are
saying. Another thing that I developed while I was making my trailer was the editing, I used
fast paced editing for the montage scene and also added in titles with fades just before them.
5. CHALLENGE
The things that I challenged on my trailer and is something that is not usually seen were:
• The first thing was that I used young cast members to try and attract my target audience
more, which is young students so the people that I chose work perfectly.
• However, the bit that I challenged was was actually happened to each member context wise
in my trailer.
• I had watched a lot of trailers in my research and most of them went down the stereotypical
route of the female character being the one in danger and this is where I wanted to change
it.
• I decided to go for in the trailer that the first character that goes missing is actually a male
character to try and add a twist to the storyline and makes things different.
