Mr Alan Koo is the Production Manager with Eminence Medical Equipment Pte Ltd, the
leading provider of vectorcardiography (VCG) devices. Alan has proudly obtained
WSQ Certified Operations Professional (COP) certification after his recent completion
of the COP last module – Supervise Work Improvement Processes in May.
When asked about his views on the programme, he replied that among the four COP
modules, he finds Supervise Work Improvement Processes to be the most effective
course as it comprises of both Supervise Quality Control and Supervise Teams at
Work. In this module, all participants are taught to work as a team where the
importance of quality is involved. In Supervise Quality Control module, there are 7
sets of tools such as fishbone diagram and pareto chart which can help him to
present ideas in a systematic way. Supervise Teams at Work module teaches him
the problem solving skills, that is to discuss the problem with the team and
brainstorm different ideas to solve the problem, which at the same time results in
fostering friendship and good teambuilding exercise. “WSQ courses change your
mindset from being an individual to a team player. Through the courses you discover
that everyone has a different role to play which can accelerate a better
teambuilding,” he added positively.
When asked on how WSQ courses benefited him, he answered that all WSQ courses
are industrial-driven; hence they are very relevant and can be applied immediately
at the workplace. The highly-subsidised WSQ courses also consist of good framework
and progression which must be taken advantage of as they can lead to increasing
one’s value in the employment. He also believes that the WSQ courses are distinctive

2. compared to others, as results can be realised sooner – “WSQ shortens the time for
management to realise how much money has been saved and how much idle time
has been translated to productivity!”
“(I believe) that everybody has a fair chance to be successful in life, despite of the
lack of opportunity when we are young because we might not have the fund to
further our education. WSQ gives you the opportunity to prove to your employer that
you can contribute and be the asset of the company.” In fact, after completing WSQ
COP, his job responsibilities have been increasing and he feels so grateful that he
can be part of the company’s growth.
Alan was one of the victims of the global economic recession in 2009. During the
negative time, he took WSQ courses to upgrade himself and reminded his soul to
never give up. He believes that WSQ courses have changed his mindset to be a
positive and confident person. “We are living in a challenging competitive world
where everyone offers different values in employment. In order to stand out, we
must equip ourselves better. WSQ provides excellent continuing education skills in
which people are still lacking of,” shared Alan about the importance of continuous
learning.
“WSQ certificate is recognised by Singapore government but may not recognised
internationally. BUT, the skills and attitudes you learnt and acquired are
internationally recognised. WSQ provides you with all the necessary tools and shows
you the paths you need go through to be successful. Therefore it is your
responsibility to take those further, train yourself and make your mark on the wall!”
remarked Alan enthusiastically.
When asked about his secret for being so motivated, he answered sincerely, “My
family is my greatest inspiration. I want to provide them a better life.” Alan is
currently undertaking ACTA certification. Upon completion, he will be eager to share
his knowledge and positive mindset to others. “We must remove our complacency,
work hard and think from different perspectives. I hope one day Singapore can
acclaim the title of “World’s Most-Trained Employees”!
