I Don’t think so..

 New Delhi on October 9, 2013.
 Mumbai on September 27
 Illegal multistory building collapsed in Thane
 Delhi building collapse Monday, June 30, 2014 - 00:40
 Chennai building collapse toll at 58
These are very few noted here still lot of incidents are happening which we are
unware of.
The recent incidents of building collapse in India

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Can we prevent these kinds of DISASTERS?
I think we can prevent with little efforts and
following some guidelines.
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
 In the disaster management we generally have two phases
Eng. Kishor K. Ade

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
 Know your Builder
 Know your Structural Consultant
 Know your Contractor
 Know the Materials Used
 Make structural audit Compulsory
 Soil testing should be done
 Know the permissible number of stories and flats

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
 Check the material test results frequently
 Check out the Type and quality of materials used.
 Do visit the site and inspect the construction quality
 Have a society meetings regularly and look after the problems if any.

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
 Check In case of visible cracks in structure inform to responsible authority and
also make third party structural audit.
 Inform other occupants regarding the problem.
 Prepare a rescue plan which can be implemented in emergency
 Make a list of emergency contacts
 In a critical situation leave the residence and dispose off the structure before its
failure.
 the material test results frequently

Eng. Kishor K. Ade

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
 Check In case of visible cracks in structure inform to responsible authority
andImplement emergency rescue plan.
 Call for help. I.E. Police, ambulance, fire brigade.
 Inform the responsible authorities regarding the incident to take
necessary action
 Follow a legal procedure to claim your loss

Eng. Kishor K. Ade

What Happens if
we neglect these

Collapse of building in Ambegaon ,Pune
CASE STUDY

Disclaimer- We don't have any intentions to challenge anyone's
observations and conclusion. We are too little to do that. So sorry
for the inconvience
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Check In case of visible cracks in structure inform to responsible authorit
According to the news papers and critics it is the differential settlement.
But we have observed some other reasons which may have contributed to the
failure.
What could have been the reasons of failure of this
beautiful structure

Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Right part of the
building which is
stable.
But the concrete
quality?
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Failure of beam
due to poor
quality concrete
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Failure of beam column joint Failure of column in
between construction lifts
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Failure of concrete in compression zone Failure of column due to slip
)concrete failure(
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Smaller size of footings
Change in column size and failure of
column due to crushing of concrete
Eng. Kishor K. Ade
Check In case of visible cracks in structure inform to responsible authorit
Looking into the situation we have observed some of the reasons
in addition to the differential settlement
1)Poor quality of concrete in compression zones.
2)Smaller size of footings
3)Failure of columns which caused the settlement in stories which created the P-Δ effect.
4)Due to poor quality concrete the section initially designed as under reinforced may have
transformed into over reinforced sections.
All theses reasons may have contributed sudden collapse of building
CONCLUSION
