Kieran Johnson is considering ideas for a print product such as a magazine or newspaper focused on a niche subject of interest like sports. After mind mapping options, Kieran decides on creating a wrestling magazine. The magazine would include interview pages, merchandise pages, and double page spreads for the front and back covers. Kieran intends to use themselves as the model for the cover interview to showcase the artistic style and fit the wrestling context. A mood board analysis shows Kieran's influences - covers focus on a central figure and reflect their colors, while mastheads typically appear at the top.
2. Initial Reaction
• I consider print-based production to be my
strength, so potential ideas relating towards print
products include a magazine, a newpaper, a print-
based marketing campaign for a film or TV series.
• The niche subject that one of these ideas could be
based on will definitely be something of my
interest, maybe sports-related as there are plenty of
sports that have magazines, such as football,
cricket, and especially wrestling.
3. Mind Map
Print products
Magazine
Newspaper
Print marketing
Fairly similar
Interview pages
and articles
Information pages
– e.g. historical info
Puzzles – e.g.
crosswords, sudoku
Stylistic choices – magazines
opt for colour, newspapers
black and white
Double page spreads
Merch – for the
wrestling idea
Mainly posters –
portrait, billboard, bus-
sized
Tend to follow a particular
set colour scheme
throughout each print advert
Film promotion also seen in
magazines
4. Final idea
• Wrestling magazine:
• Artistic style can fit with the given context – e.g. no need
for black and white for a newspaper, colour scheme for
the front cover can fit with the cover star, etc.
• Plan for interview pages, (around 6 pages worth),
merchandise pages (roughly 2), front and back cover
double spread. If possible, maybe an additional heritage
article for an old event.
• Intend to use myself as the shooting model for the cover
and the interview
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• They all focus on a central figure as the main image of the cover.
• The colours are reflected towards the main figure in the image, such as
Marcus Rashford’s cover being red because he’s a Man United player.
• Most of them adopt the masthead appearing at the top, except for the
WWE magazine which appears at the top left corner of the cover.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I intend to adopt a similar style of having one singular and central figure
on the cover, whilst using a colour scheme suitable for them.
