5. Proper Nouns
A proper noun is the name of a particular person
or place.
For example:
Richard was a good king.
or
Africa is a very large country.

Common nouns refer to the names of things in
general.
For example: Keep the bottle in the fridge.
or
I saw him talking to a boy in the park yesterday.
8. Abstract Nouns
Abstract nouns refer to the name of a quality,
action or state that cannot be experienced with
the five senses.
For example: bravery, foolishness, freedom
9. Concrete Nouns
describe physical things that can be
sensed: seen, touched, heard, smelled, or
tasted. Most nouns are concrete nouns—
For example: rocks, butterflies, paper.

11. RECOGNIZING PRONOUNS
A pronoun is a word that stands in for
a noun, often to avoid the need to
repeat the same noun over and over.
Like nouns, pronouns can refer to
people, things, concepts, and places.
Most sentences contain at least one
noun or pronoun.
13. TYPES OF PRONOUNS
Personal Pronouns are simple pronouns that are
used to substitute proper names. Some examples of
personal pronouns are I, you, he, she, we, they,
him, her, he, she, us and them.
Indefinite Pronouns are pronouns that do not
refer to any particular person, place or thing.
Some examples of indefinite pronouns are someone,
somebody, somewhere, something, anyone, anybody,
anywhere, anything, no one, nobody, nowhere,
everyone, everybody, everywhere, everything,
each, none, few, and many.
14. VERBS
Verbs are words that show action in a
sentence. Just like nouns and adjectives,
they're one of the eight parts of speech.
Verbs also show: the tense (time period) of
a sentence
16. Action Verbs
Action verbs express action by
describing the behavior of a
person, place or thing. They may
describe physical or mental
actions.
John thinks about moving to
Alaska every day.
17. Linking Verbs
Linking verbs link the subject
(noun phrase) of the sentence
with the rest of the sentence.
Many linking verbs are forms of
“to be.” Let’s take a look at
some examples:
James is a nice person
18. Modal verb
is used along with a main verb to express
possibility, ability, permission, or necessity. For
example, in the statement “you must leave,”
“must” is a modal verb indicating that it's
necessary
19. ADJECTIVE is a word that modifies or
describes a noun or pronoun. Adjectives can be
used to describe the qualities of someone or
something independently or in comparison to
something else.
Examples: Adjectives in a sentence I like old
houses. The boy is tall and skinny.
