letters or the font selected, represents an aspect of the poem's subject.

15) Change- expresses a change in the poem. This shift could be as simple as
a summary of the preceding lines, or it could be a dramatic transformation of the
speaker's point of view. Sometimes specific words, such as “but,” “yet” or “and yet,” will
indicate a shift in a poem.
Example: My voice may be the smallest but I can almost touch the stars.
16) Irony- The use of words to convey the opposite of the literal meaning. Also a
statement or situation where the meaning is contradicted by the appearance or
presentation of the idea.
Example: A pilot has a fear of height.
