THE MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDANCY
MEAN
To find the mean of the different languages spoken in uttarakhand:
Mean=sum of all the observations/total number of observations
= 43.37+23.03+19.94+4.22+2.61+1.50+1.35+1.05+0.95+1.98/10
= 100/10
= 10
MODE
Since all the observations haveoccurred once, the mode would be:
0.95, 1.05,1.35, 1.50, 1.98, 2.61,4.22, 19.94,23.03,43.37
MEDIAN

=[10/2 + {(10/2)+1}]/2
=5+6/2
=11/2
=5.5th
observation
Thus, median is 2.61.
RAM JHULA – ONE OF THE MOST
FAMOUS BRIDGES IN UTTARAKHAND
Ram Jhula is an iron suspension bridgeacross theriver Ganges, located 3
kilometres (1.9 mi) north-eastfrom the town Rishikesh in the Indian state
of Uttarakhand. The bridge connects the Sivananda Nagar area of Muni Ki
Reti in Tehri Garhwaldistrict to Swargashramin PauriGarhwaldistrict crossing
the river fromwestto east. Built in the year 1986, thebridge is one of the iconic
landmarks of Rishikesh.
Total length: 229m
Say, a person is standing in the middle of the bridgeand looking at the top of the
pole at the end of the bridge, such that the angle of elevation is 60 degrees, so
how do we find the height of the pole?
In order to do that, we have,
The length of bridge= 229m
Length of the bridge to its midpoint= 229/2m
Angle of elevation= 60 degrees
So now, weknow that,
Tan theta = perpendicular/base
So, tan 60=perpendicular/229/2=root3
Perpendicular = 114.5x1.73
=198.085m
Thus the height of the pole is 198.085
(Note:the valuestaken are not exact)
Trigonometry can be very usefulin our everyday lives justlike we used it above.
