3. What Principals need to be Embraced Individual Rights and Freedoms Many people in society have different beliefs and values which can cause controversy between different ethnic groups, religious groups, and other cultural groups. The society needs to embrace these principals and look past their differences because this principal allows equality through every group in the nation, majority and minority. This also decreases and sometimes completely eliminates controversy between cultural groups. Rule of Law This principal of Liberalism needs to be embraced because some people feel that they can just avoid some parts of the law, and others get penalized for no reason at all. When Rule of Law is put into place, it ensures that the consequences for each crime are the same for everyone across the nation.
4. Zimbabwe Zimbabwe is an example of failed imposition of western societies trying to impose their ideologies of liberalism on the nation because their leader, Robert Mugabe is resistant to the change. Mugabe has led Zimbabwe since 1980, serving as a prime minister from 1980 to 1987, then as president since 1987 on. His policies on running the country have received much criticism from within the country and outside sources. Since his rein, there has been sanctioned killings of Ndebele tribe members and the expropriation of farms owned by white people. It would be hard to impose, let alone for the country to embrace, the western societies liberal principals of individual rights and freedoms and rule of law because Robert Mugabe has already shown his favoritism to a certain group in the nation through his acts of expropriation and killings of other tribe members. Also since Mugabe has been in power, the economy has spiraled downward, which has caused massive shortages of food, oil and other natural resources. The imposition of economic liberal principals (economic freedom, competition, self interest and private property) have obviously failed in Zimbabwe’s crumbling economy. Since Mugabe was so unwilling to accept the British and United State’s try’s to change the countries regime, Mugabe’s judgment on how to run the nation resulted in the countries failing economy.
