Socrates was a famous Greek philosopher considered the father of western philosophy. He lived from 469-399 BC in Athens and is known for questioning beliefs and constantly seeking truth and wisdom. Some key points about Socrates include that he never wrote anything down himself and taught through discussion, emphasized humility, frugality and simplicity, and believed the path to wisdom was acknowledging one's own ignorance. He was eventually sentenced to death by drinking poison hemlock for corrupting the youth of Athens with his teachings.
