L.O. 1. Inspect packaging materials, tools and equipment
At the end of 60-minute period, the learners should be able to:
1.3. Check packaging equipment for canning for the required settings in accordance with
standard operating procedures
1. identify parts and the steps in setting-up/adjusting pressure canner or pressure cooker
2. demonstrate the proper use of pressure cooker
3. observe safety precautionary measures while preparing the pressure cooker for use

1. The class will be divided into two groups.
2. Each group will be given an information sheet about the function, parts and operation of the
pressure cooker.
3. Each group will be given 15 minutes to discuss within the group the parts, functions and operation of
the pressure cooker.
4. Each group will have a representative which will be identified just before the presentation of their
group learning session to present the parts, functions and operation of the pressure cooker
5. There will be an assigned reactor from the other group to give comments/reaction on how the group
who presented performed the task. They will specifically give comments on the following:
•Accuracy/clarity of the presented information
•Confidence
•Teamwork
5. STEPS IN PREPARING THE
PRESSURE COOKER
1. Place 1 1/2 inch water in the cooker.
2. Put rack with stand at the bottom of the cooker.
3. Place the cans on the rack inside the cooker.
4. Cover the cooker.
5. Tighten two opposite bakelite knobs at the same time evenly.
6. Turn on the stove. Wait until it reaches the boiling point.
7. Exhaust the air in the cooker for 8-10 minutes.
8. Close the vent pipe by putting the pressure regulator weight.
9. Regulate the fire when it reaches the 10 pounds pressure.
