1. Baucis and Philemon

2. Once upon a time there was an old couple that lived in a little
old house. They were named Baucis and Philemon.

3. One day while outside they came upon some travelers and let
them in as guests into their old cottage.

4. They set up
cushions and
made some food
for the travelers.

5. Something was
unusual when the
wine pitcher kept
refilling and was
always full. The old
couple realized
that the travelers
we actually
heavenly guests.

6. The old couple offered the gods a special duck but they
refused and then they flooded the village and built a grand
temple.

7. After the temple was
finished the gods asked
what the old couple
would wish for. The old
couple wished to be the
priests and guardians
of the temple and also
that they could die
together at the same
moment. The gods
granted this wish.

8. The couple grew
even older
together and
later died beside
one another and
at the same
moment passed
away happily.
