Albert was born in
Baurnouknow as
today's Nigeria in1722.
He was the Youngest
out of the six children.
He’s Mother was the
eldest daughter of the
reigning King there.
James Albert was doted
on as the grandson of
the king of Zaara.
3. At the age of 15, he was taken by a Gold Coast ivory
merchant who told him that if he went with him than he
would see houses, white folks and other people that were
he’s age that would be he’s companion. He also told him
that he would bring him back home safely. He’s family
members all agreed that he should go and explore new
people & land.
After arriving on shore, James Albert was sold to a Dutch
captain in exchange of two yards of check cloth. He was
than bought by an American in Barbados and resold to
work for a Dutch Reformed minister named Theodorus
Jacobus Frelinghuysen in New England. There, he was
taught to read and was brought up as a Christian. When the
minister died, he chose to stay with his widow, and with the
orphans until he was left without support.
