• Listen … don’t just hear
• Understand… don’t just read
• Do not hear/read what you want to hear/read

7. Listening
• Many conflicts arise from misunderstandings
• Listening to others helps to clear up
miscommunications
• Listen for Ideas – Not Just Words
• Be Patient
• Avoid Personal Prejudice
9. Speaking
• Not only ‘sounding’ clear, it is also important
to pass on your thoughts clearly
• Be brief and to the point
• Aim to be brief, respectful and getting your
message across
11. Writing
• As in Speaking, try to be respectful in your
statements
• Do not ever open with a negative remark!
• If you need to be negative about something,
cushion it with accepting his statement;
however…..
• If unsure about the definition or context of
words, check with someone
• Trying to sound smarter will more often backfire
12. Empathize !!!
• Put yourself in the opposite person’s shoes
• Accept that other people may have different
points of view
• You may learn something while gaining the
respect and trust of others
• It automatically helps to reduce conflicts and
makes you a team player
13. Conclusion
• Outside of your immediate family, you spend
most of your waking hours with your
colleagues and clients.
• Make that a stress-free, productive and happy
time.
