3.  An article is a word that is used with noun ,to
specify grammatical definiteness of the noun
and in some language extending to volumeor
numerical scope.

4. In many languages, articles are a specific part of
speech.
Articles are usually categorized as
Definite article.
Indefinite article.

5. Definite article:
The definite article is used to refer to a
particular member of a group or class. It may
be something uniquely specified. The definite
article in English, for both singular and plural
nouns, is The
 Example
 Childrens know the faster ways home.
 Give me the book.

6. Indefinite article:
Indicates that its noun is not a particular
one identifiable To the listener. It may be something
that speaker is mentioning for the first time or the
speaker may be making statement about any such thing
( A /An ) are Indefinite articles. These are used in English
grammar.
Example:
 A Horse
 An Egg

7.  The form an is used before word that begins
with vowel sound, and A before word that
begins with the consonant sound.
Example:
She had a house so large that an Elephant
would get lost without a map.

8. Articles are quite important in English as they
provide certain information about the noun.
Rules for using Articles.
1) Do not use the when talking about
something in general.
2) Do not put the in front of
• Plural countable noun (vegetables, cats etc).
• Singular uncountable noun (gold, milk etc).
• Example:
• Cats have claws
• Gold is expensive.

9.  A/An is used only with singular countable
nouns. It is not used with uncountable nouns.
• Uncountable noun.
• Nouns which u cannot count individually.
• Eg:
• Kate has a long hair .( wrong)
• Kate has long hair. (correct)
• Aslam has cat (wrong)
• Aslam has a cat (correct).

10.  An article is a word use to modify a noun
(which is a person, place, object or idea).
 Technically, an article is an adjective, which is
any word that modifies a noun.

11.  DIFFERENCE B/W A AND AN.
A and An have same meaning. A and AN are
indefinite article the difference depends on
the sound at the beginning of the next word.
When the next word starts with the consonant
sound A.
• A house
• A truck
• A car
• A cold day
• A very lazy person.

12.  When the next word starts with the vowel
sound An.
• An apple
• An egg
• An actor
• An insect
• An easy lesson
• An interesting class .

13.  BECAREFULL.
The sound of the letter is important
 A house ____> BUT an hour ( the H at the
beginning of hour is silent.
 An uncle___> BUT a university ( The U at the
beginning of university sounds like YOU.
