5. Definite article:
The definite article is used to refer to a
particular member of a group or class. It may
be something uniquely specified. The definite
article in English, for both singular and plural
nouns, is The

6. Indefinite article:
Indicates that its noun is not a particular
one identifiable To the listener. It may be something
that speaker is mentioning for the first time or the
speaker may be making statement about any such thing
( A /An ) are Indefinite articles. These are used in English
grammar.

An Egg
7. The form an is used before word that begins
with vowel sound, and A before word that
begins with the consonant sound.
Example:
She had a house so large that an Elephant
would get lost without a map.

Rules for using Articles.
1) Do not use the when talking about
something in general.
2) Do not put the in front of
• Plural countable noun (vegetables, cats etc).
• Singular uncountable noun (gold, milk etc).

A and An have same meaning. A and AN are
indefinite article the difference depends on
the sound at the beginning of the next word.
When the next word starts with the consonant
