In africa gandhiji suffered many hardship ,once when he
was south afica , the magistrate of a durban court ordered
gadhi to remove his turban , which he refused to do.
Indians were not allowed to walk on public footpaths in
south africa .mr gandhi was kicked by a police officer out of
the footpath onto the street without warning . These events
wetre a turning point in gandhi’s life and shaped his social
activism and awakened him to social injustice. After
witnessing racism ,prejudice, and injustice against indian
in south africa, gandhi began to question his place in
society society and his people’s standing in the british
empire.
3. Early life
On 2 october 1869 putlibai gave birth to her last child
mohandas , in a dark windowless ground floor room of
the ganghi family residence in porbandar city. One of

In porebandar. His father was the chief minister of
porebandar. He is called father of nation born and
raised in hindu family he is well known for leadership
of indian endependence movement, philosophy of
satyagraha , Ahimsa or non violence.

movements for civil rights and freedom across the
world he is also called bapu gandhi’s vision of an
independent india based on religious pluralism.

muslim nationalism which was demanding a separate
muslim homeland carved out of india. Eventually, in
august 1947 britain granted an independence. In

6. Gandhiji first major achievements came in 1918 with
the champaran and kheda agitations of bihar and
gujrat. the champaran agitations pitted the local
peasantry against their largely british landlords who
were backed by the local administration the
peasantry was force to grow indigo, a cash crop
whoe,s demand had been declining over to decades,
and were force to sell their crops to the planters at a
fixed price. Unhappy with this, the peasantry
appeled to gandhi at his Ashram in Ahmedabad.

8. EARLY LIFE…
As the best educated of his brothers Gandhiji was
seen by his family as the best candidate to one day
suceed his father and his uncle tulsidas as diwan, in
londan gandhiji studied law and jurisprudence and
enrolled at the inner temple with the intension of
becoming a barrister his time in londan was
influenced by the vow he had made to his mother.

9. NON CO-OPERATION MOVEMENT
In his famous book HIND SWARAJ Gandhiji declared
that british rule was established in india with the co-
operation of indians and had survived only because of
this co-operation. If indians refuse to co-operate ,
british rule would collapase and swaraj would come.
With congress now behind him 1920, gandhiji had the
base employee non co-operation, non violence and
peaceful resisestence as his weapon in the struggle
against the british raj. His wide popularity among both
hindus and muslims made his leadearship possible.
10. Favoured women
Gandhiji strongly favoured the emancipation of
women, and he went so far as to say that the women
has come to look upon me as one of themselves. He
opposed purdah, child marriage untouchability,and
the extreme oppression of hindus widows, upto an
including sati. He specially recruited women to
participate in the salt tax campaigns and boycott
foreign products.
11. UNTOUCHABLES…
In 1932 through the campaigning of the dalit
leader br.Ambedkar the government granted
untouchables seprate electorates under the
new constitution known as communal awards.
In protest, gandhiji embarked on a six day fast
on 20 sept 1932, while he was imprisoned at
the yerwada jail pune. This was the start of
new campaign by gandhiji to improves the lifes
of untouchables whom he named harijans, the
children of god.
12. Gandhiji was assassinated in the garden of
the former birla house ( now gandhiji smriti)
at 5:17pm on 30 january 1948. a
accompanied by his grand nieces gandhiji
was on his way to adress a prayer meeting ,
when his assassin Nathuram Godse fired
three bullets.
