2. PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, holy be Thy name, Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive
us our sins, as we forgive those who sins against us.
Do not bring us to the test and deliver us from evil.
Amen.
3. “WRITING LINEAR EQUATION AX + BY = C IN
FORM OF Y = MX + B AND VICE VERSA”
Quarter: 1
Duration: Week 6
Code: M8AL – lf – 1
Teacher: Judy Nel G. Plesing
4. OBJECTIVES
AT THE END OF THE LESSON, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
• Identify linear equation;
• Transform the linear equation Ax + By = C in form of
y = mx + b and vice versa.
6. • Linear Equation
An equation whose graph is a line. It is also a function with a degree of 1.
• x-intercept
The abscissa of the point where the graph intersects the x-axis. The
value of x when the y is 0.
• y-intercept
The ordinate of the point where the graph intersects the y-axis. The
value of y when the x is 0.
• Slope
The ratio of the change in y to the corresponding change of x.
7. One way of describing a function is by using graphs.
In the function f(x)=3x+2, the domain is the set of real
numbers and the graph is the set of all points (x,y) for
which y=3x+2. The graph of this function indicates
that the line has slope 3 and y intercept 2.
8. Another way of describing a function is by using
equations. A linear function is a function of the form
f(x) = mx + b where m and b are real numbers. The
equation of the form Ax+By=C can be written in the
form f(x)=mx+b, and vice versa, if we let f(x)=y.
9. EXAMPLES
Let us transform the following equations in the form f(x)=mx+b.
1.4x – 5y = 20
2.3x + 7y = 14
12. On the other hand, any linear equation of the form y = mx + b
can be transformed to Ax + By = C.
This time, let us now rewrite the following equations in the
form of Ax + By = C
1. y = x + 3
2. y = 5 – 3x
15. From the function f(x) = mx + b, the characteristics of
the graph of line can be determined. For instance, the
x and y intercepts, the slope and the zeros of the
function can be identified as well from the slope of its
graph.
16. READ AND LISTEN ATTENTIVELY.
You will be given 10 equations, identify the following
equations if is linear or not. You have 10 seconds to
examine each equations carefully. If it is linear, write
“LINEAR” and if it is not linear, write “NON
LINEAR” on your answer sheet.
32. TIME FOR A QUIZ.
Kindly prepare ½ sheet of paper. For items
1-5, transform the given equations to
f(x) = mx + b, and for items 6-10 rewrite
the given equations to Ax + By = C.
