SESSIÓN 1 &2nd:DISCOVERING CERVANTES AND
DON QUIXOTE.
1.Reading.
¿What are we going to learn about?.
Read in pairs and answer the questions bellow.
In a village of La Mancha, the name of which I have no desire to call to mind, there
lived not long since one of those gentlemen that keep a lance in the lance-rack, an old
buckler, a lean hack, and a greyhound for coursing». Este sería el comienzo de ‘Don
Quijote de La Mancha’ en inglés y en este idioma nos cuenta un alumno datos
importantes de la obra de Cervantes que este año cumple su IV centenario.
Don Quixote was written 400 years ago by Cervantes in 1605, when the first edition of El
ingenioso Hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha was published.
Don Quixote has become one of the most admired works in the history of literature
since it first appeared.
It is a parody which mocks the “knights genre” by means of the two main characters,
Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, two Spanish men of that time who, forgetting the
material world, undertake an idealist crusade and travel all over the country in order to
make fun of their contemporary society which becomes caricaturized.
