The #NyegeNyege festival is one of the long awaited events that happen in the last half of the year
in Uganda. Named by Fest300 a San Francisco based publisher of the 300 top festival annual list as
one of the top 30 new festivals of 2017 further boosted the #NyegeNyege reputation and even
when the Minister of Ethics-Fr Lokodo tried to stop the 2018 edition, it was all in vain as the
#NyegeNyege diehards took the war to social media and the festival commenced as planned.
The festival run from 6-9th September in Jinja (one of the top tourist magnet towns) and has been
trending on twitter with different people sharing their #NyegeNyege moments.

Being the leading Telecommunication company in Uganda takes a lot of consistency, testing, pushing past the
limits, creativity and the #MTNMomo campaign is yet another well thought out campaign by MTNUganda &
TBWA Uganda which had unique ad execution and a theme song around the famous “Bosco” character that
went viral. The #MTNMomo campaign unveils the new MTN service which enables users to make payments
(Mastercard payments inclusive) for goods and services using MTN Mobile Money which makes it more like a
Mastercard-powered virtual card.
MTNUganda didn’t stop there as they went on to introduce the Tidal partnership which made it possible for
MTN users to pay for their tidal subscription through MTNMomo. The service has eased financial lifestyle for
Ugandans and has been trending on twitter.

The detaining of the Kyadondo East Minister of Parliament Mr.Kyagulanyi Robert aka BobiWine
raised a lot of concerns among the Ugandan population resulting in to multiple strikes around
the country, population unrest and a wave for his release both at home and from international
citizens and eventually other countries joined the #FreeBobiwine campaign which got massive
traction on social media and was trending on Twitter.

The Government of Uganda in the month of September announced the merging of various government agencies
where most will be absorbed back to their mother ministries as departments and for some to be dissolved
completely. This announcement created mixed feelings among the people of Uganda as some defended it for the
government will save alot of money which was spent on running these agencies while for others it was not
welcome for lots of Ugandans will lose their jobs and the procedure for this dissolving is unclear which leaves
unrest. The discussion went viral on Twitter as various people expressed their concerns, support and feedback.

The newly commissioned Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital was trending on twitter after its doors
were opened to the public and the service price list released. The health facility can now handle high risk antenatal
services, reproductive medicine and Intro Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Assisted Reproductive technology which was
great news though the prices set for these services were perceived as ridiculously high for a government hospital
meant to serve the people. Tweeps took to twitter to express their concerns about the pricing and the relevance of
the hospital to the public.

The #Flyfest18 took twitter by storm as it was the perfect way for teens to cap off the September holiday in style
at the Lugogo Hockey grounds with lots of games, competitions, great music and teen performances. The festival
had the top music acts scheduled to entertain their teen fan base and the famous Nigerian act Korede Bello
closed the event in style leaving the fans in awe. The revellers shared their awesome moments with friends,
performances and the great vibes that made the event worthwhile.

The #PlantATreeUg campaign kicked off in September on the National CSR day with a target to restore Uganda to
its former green glory under the CSR initiative by Uganda Revenue Authority(URA) in collaboration of The
National Forestry Authority(NFA) ahead of the URA Tax Payer appreciation week. Different ministries, corporate
organisations, communities and individual groups participated in the initiative which was activated in different
parts of the country. The cause went viral on twitter with tweeps from all over the country sharing their
involvement in the campaign.

The #MyTaxesWork campaign is a transparency initiative by the Uganda Revenue Authority which is aimed to
showcase what URA has been doing with the tax payers money.
The 2018 Tax Payers Appreciation Week was from 26th – 28th September at the Kololo Independence Grounds and
was open to people of the community to come and gained insights on tax usage and other services offered by
different organizations.
#MyTaxesWork went viral as Ugandans voiced their concerns, appreciations, feedback and moments of involvement.
