TYPE 1 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
Write your own sentences by answering these
questions using the Type 1 conditional sentence
structure.

TYPE 1 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
Put in the verbs in brackets and form Conditional
sentences type I. Mind the underlined verb forms.
1. If you come with me, I (to do) the shopping with you.
2. Walter (to help) his mother in the garden if she reads him a story
this evening.
3. If it (to rain), I will stay at home.
4. Our teacher will be happy if we (to learn) the poem by heart.
5. We (to pass) the exam if we study harder.
6. If the weather (to be) fine, the children can walk to school.

CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
➢are statements discussing known factors or
hypothetical situations and their
consequences.
➢ They are used to express that the action in
the main clause (without if) can only take
place if a certain condition (in the clause
with if) is fulfilled. There are three types of
Conditional Sentences.
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1
➢ It is possible and also very likely that the
condition will be fulfilled.
Structure: if + Simple Present, will-Future
Ex. If I find her address, I will send her an
invitation.
If John has the money, he will buy a
Ferrari.
Structure: if + Simple Present, will-Future

TYPE 2 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
1. If I failed in my exam I would try again.
2. I would stay in Burj Al Arab if I had a lot of
money.
3. If I were you, I would live in Dubai for at least 5
years.
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 2
➢It is possible but very unlikely, that the condition will
be fulfilled.
Structure: if + Simple Past, would + Infinitive
Example: If I found her address, I would send
her an invitation.
If I had a lot of money, I would stay in Burj Al Arab for one
week .
I would visit Burj Khalifa if I didn’t have fear of heights.
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1& 2
Conditional Sentences type 1 and 2 - Fill in the correct forms of the verbs.
1. If I were you, I ________(start) now.
2. If Charles _______ (ask) me, I would lend him my tools.
3. If I _______(be) at home, I will study the new words.
4. If Sam has a hammer, he ______(lend) it to me.
5. If Mary helped in the kitchen, she ________(get) more pocket money.

7. If we go to London, we ________(see) the Tower.
8. Susan will help you if she _______ (get) more pocket money.
9. I ________(tell) you if you asked me.

TYPE 3 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
1.I would have stayed in Burj Al Arab if I
had had the money.
2. If I had studied harder, I would have
passed the exam.
3. If she had asked me for help, I would
have assisted her.
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 3
➢It is impossible that the condition will be
fulfilled because it refers to the past.
Structure: if + Past Perfect, would + have + Past
Participle
Example: If I had found her address, I would
have sent her an invitation.
If Mohammed had had the money, he would
have stayed in Burj Al Arab for a month.
PRACTICE: Rewrite the following sentences
using the different types of conditional
