2. WHAT IS AN EXOSKELETON?
• It is a hard external covering that protects the body of an animal without
a skeleton.
A snail does not have a
skeleton inside its body so the
exoskeleton provides
protection.

3. WHAT DOES AN EXOSKELETON DO?
• An exoskeleton can have the following functions:
– protect the body from the sun
– protect wings from damage
– provide camouflage
– create a waterproof barrier
