2. Key Features of Proposed Research
Facebook has been the platform used by the students to share their
insights and thoughts to vent out their perception towards a distinctive topic.
In light with this, both Filipino and English are the official languages of the
Philippines, so it's common for us Filipinos to switch languages given our
bilingualism. The students often post and share status in their native and
English language.
Apart from admitting that Facebook can generate a grammar discussion
among its users, the respondents in majority consider this to be interesting
which indicates their acknowledgment of this social networking site’s potential
to promote collaborative learning of English grammar as compared to
autonomous learning.
3. Key Features of Proposed Research
In using the screenshots of the status and
postings of the students in a given time frame, this
discourse analysis is going to analyze the structure
of Facebook status and postings of the students by
using questionnaire and some statistical methods.

This figure above shows the conceptual framework of the study. In the independent variable,
the researchers include the social media platform- Facebook. In the process, the researchers took a
screenshots on the random social media posts of the respondents in Facebook in a given timeframe.
After gathering the data, the researchers will be able to analyze and interpret the data. Lastly, the
expected outcome of this study is to map out in which structure of English, specifically in the
punctuations and capitalizations of the status and postings do the students of Iloilo Science and
Technology University Miagao Campus excels and underperforms at.

5. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM TABLE
This study will map out which structure of the English does the
student excel and underperforms.
This study focused on finding out the answer of this question:
1. What are the common errors of BSED ENGLISH 2A students in their
Facebook status and postings in terms of punctuations and
capitalizations?
2. What is the language map can be drawn out of the result of the
study?
3. Where do the students of BSED ENGLISH 2A have more errors
between punctuations and capitalization?
4. What are the implications of the result?
6. Delimitation of the study
This study is focused on mapping out the structure of English where the
population of 30 tertiary students of English Language, Education council at
Iloilo science and Technology University Miagao Campus excels and
underperforms most. The researchers will be limiting the number of
respondents to thirty with respect to the class population and the number
required for the validity of this research. The researcher will be taking
screenshot of the students’ Facebook status and postings on the month of
December (31 Days). Rest assured that all the data acquired from the students
will be confidential and will be used purely for research only.
7. Significance of the Study
The study will benefit the following:
STUDENTS. The result will provide the learners with knowledge about which structure
of English specifically in punctuations and capitalizations, they need to improve.
Teachers. The given data will give the teachers idea about who among their students
excel most and underperforms in using punctuations and capitalizations in their
Facebook status and postings. This will help them find ways to enhance their students’
usage of punctuations and capitalizations.
Parents. Like the teachers, the parents too have an idea about their children’s usage of
punctuation and capitalizations.
8. Significance of the Study
The study will benefit the following:
School Administrator. The results will provide and raise awareness about the usage of
punctuation and capitalizations of students in their Facebook status and postings. By
this they will be able to create and formulate useful strategies to help students
enhance their usage of punctuation and capitalizations.
Future Researcher. Serves as the basis on conducting their future studies. This may
build a foundation and aspire them to discover more and acquire greater
understanding.
9. Definition of Terms
The following were defined conceptually and operationally to give clarity and better
understanding of the terms used in this study.
Students. A person who is still learning something (dictionary.cambridge.org 2022)
In this study, students refers to the BSED English 2A students of ISAT U Miagao Campus,
thus, they are the main respondents.
Language Mapping. Is the visualization of linguistic a language – related data with a linguistic
fact. It is an important factor in contact between language users and a distinct structure.

In this study language mapping refers to the structure of English specifically in
punctuation and capitalizations, of BSED English 2A.
Discourse Analysis. Sometimes defined as the analysis of language beyond sentence. It is
consider as the larger discourse context in order to understand how it affects the meaning of
the sentence.
In this study, discourse analysis refers to the way we analyze the Facebook status and
postings.
10. Research Design
This study employed Descriptive Research Design. This
design is used to map out the students according to who excel
most and underperforms in using punctuation and
capitalization.
11. Respondents and Setting of the Study
This study will take place at Iloilo Science and
Technology University Miagao campus, Igtuba Miagao,
Iloilo. The respondents of this study will be the 30
purposely chosen BSED English 1A and 2A of ISAT U
Miagao campus.

This study will use Focus Group Discusion. This sampling
techniques enables the researchers to choose respondents
that were from a range of settings, were as relevant as
possible to the review, and had rich data to participate in this
study. For this reason, the respondent of this study are the
BSED English 1A and 2A students of ISAT U Miagao campus.

15. Data Collection Procedure
Before gathering the data, the school administration of ISAT U Miagao
Campus is contacted to solicit their permission in conducting the study.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the Facebook posting of the
BSED English 1A and 2A students. They were told that their participation
is voluntary, that they were free to return the questionnaire blank, and the
anonymity of their responses were also emphasized. The data was
gathered through identifying the respondents and monitor their Facebook
post specifically on the month of December (31 days). They researchers
will screenshot their Facebook post and analyze it.
16. Data Analysis Method
The study uses discourse analysis to analyze the structure of
the Facebook status and posting of BSED English 2A,
specifically this will analyze their usage of punctuation and
capitalizations. After analyzing their Facebook status and
posting, they will be map out according to who excel most and
underperforms in using punctuation and capitalizations.
17. Instrument of the Study/Interview
Instrument
The instrument of this study will be the screen
captured Facebook status and postings on the month
of December (31 days) of the BSED English 2A
students of ISAT U Miagao campus. The screen
captured status and postings includes, personal data
such as their name, profile pictures, their friends, and
their family members.
18. Ethical Considerations
The researchers informed all the participants about the
purpose of the research, why they were chosen, all
potential risks and benefits and that they could refuse
to participate, or could withdraw from the study at any
point in time.
