1. EverysummerwhenmyfamilyandI wouldsetoff onour yearlyholiday,myMumwouldalwaysbuy
my sistersandI a magazine each.I didnotthinkmuch of it then,butnow I believe ittobe the trigger
to my fondnessof the mediaindustry.GraduallyasIgot older,the magazinesswitchedfromGirl Talk
to Vogue whichonlyfuelledmyambitionevenmore tohave a careerinthis industry,asitmade me
realise thatthiscouldbe a career option.Ithas now ledtostacks and stacksof differentmagazines
slowly fillingupmybedroom.Therefore,Iwouldlove tocarryon my studywithinthissubjectand
move onto studyMedia ProductionorJournalismatuniversity.
At school,Ifoundthat I excelledinsubjective lessonssuchasEnglishasthere wasno rightanswer,I
wantedtobe creative,expressmyself throughmywork.Findingavocational course inMediawas
the bestthingthat everhappenedtobe.Ifoundthat I wasgood witha camera,I had the eye for
photography,Ilearnthowto editvideosquicklyandIcoulddo itwell.Realisingthisearlyintothe
course,I immediatelydideverythingIcouldto developthoseskillsinmyfree time,doing
photoshootsforfriends;familymembersorevenshootingavideofora competitionafriendwas
competingin,andI wasevenluckyenoughtobe invitedtoa musicvideoshootfora local band.I
was able tohelpsetup the scene andget on-setexperience onaprofessionalsetup.Expandingmy
experience, ithasalsoallowedme toexpandmyskillswithbothvideography,photography,andthe
editingprocess,whichhaspaidoff asmy college projectsare now ata higherstandard.The
productionstagesof a projectare myfavourite asit meansIcan create the image inmy headand
see itcome to life.Studyingfurtheratuniversitywouldbe beneficial tome asit wouldmeanIcould
full fill mypotential andflourishwithinthe industry.
Since 2016, I have beena Young Leaderat mylocal Brownie Unit,where Ihave gainedskillsin
communicationandleadership.Thishasallowedme togoon and volunteeratthe Guide Unit as well
because Ihave beenable toget the qualificationstoworkwithbothage groups.Duringthe Covid-19
lockdown,mylocal unitmovedonline,andwe were able tokeepmeetingsuponZoom.Thiskeptus
engagedwiththe girlsandmeantwe couldkeepthe girlsinvolvedwithGirlguidingwhenwe could
not meetinperson.Iwas alsoable togo to Lourdestwo yearsrunningwithmyschool,where I
volunteeredasa helpertokeepthe elderswhotravelledwithourdiocesecompanyandtake them
aroundthe differentbasilicas.Itwassuchan incredible andeye-openingexperience thatIam so
grateful tohave beenable totake part in.
I alsohave awards inGrade 4 in CombinedDramaandGrade 4 inDevisingthroughLondonAcademy
of Music& DramaticArts (LAMDA) and a DistinctioninPublicSpeakingthroughEnglishGCSE.Both
have increasedmyconfidence intalkinginfrontof groups,whichhasbeenhelpful inearning
leadershipqualificationsandleadinggroupprojects.
For my final yearFMP,I am planningtocreate a printprojectsurroundingphotographyandart.Ilike
researchingartphotographerssuchas Min Hyun-woowhocancapture emotionandplayswiththe
obfuscation of the modelsinthe photos.Ifindhisworkfascinatingandwill use itforresearchinmy
final majorproject.Ichose to do a printprojectovera videobasedproject,asIlike the combination
of photography,editingandjournalism,especiallywhenI have the freedomtomake the subjectof
the projectto be whateverIlike.
Mediais sucha huge part of my life,surroundingmyeverydaylife andIhope fora careerin the
magazine industry,whetheritisediting,photographerforamagazine or writingarticles,Iwould
love todevelopmyskillstogettothispoint.Ithas alwaysbeena bigdreamof mine andcontinuing
intouniversitywouldboostmyskillssoIcouldgeta job withinthissector.Ihope youcan see my
potential.
