Greek and Filipino Heroes
3. Like Greece, Philippines also
has their own culture in the art
of mythologies. But unlike the
Greek, they don’t have a wide
background story.
INTRODUCTION
4. Originally, Greek Mythology was created during the ancient time to
explain certain phenomena that happens which are hard to explain
during those times. Lacking knowledge in Science, people relied on art
to understand the circumstances that happens around them. Same thing
goes with the Filipino Mythology however, the story is not as diverse
as the Greek’s. Since Philippines is an archipelago, it is comprised of a
variety of ethnicity who each believe in supernatural events which
rooted the belief in various creatures and entities that exists to balance
the energies in the planet. Filipino Mythology, like Greek Mythology,
named different characters of gods and goddesses, demons, and heroes
to express their beliefs.
GREEK & FILIPINO MYTHOLOGY
5. Initially, Greek Mythology started its plot explaining the very
beginning of everything’s existence. On the other hand, Filipino
Mythology simply explained how a certain god created everything
which has a semblance to the story of the Bible. Also, Greek
Mythology focuses on the magical and supernatural relations of their
gods and goddesses as well as the other creatures. Meanwhile, Filipino
Mythology has this distinction where the gods and goddesses as well as
the other creatures meddle with the lives of the immortals in an eerie
manner like preying on them and consuming their insides for food. To
make it clear, Greek Mythology emphasized the wonders of the gods
and goddesses while the Filipino Mythology emphasized the
relationship of the gods and goddesses to the mortals.
6. Filipino Mythology isn’t as diverse as the Greek Mythology. One
factor is that, they don’t have characters that rebreed unlike the Greek
Mythology where the characters conceive offspring from their own
siblings and the parents can even conceive offspring from their
children. Their rebreeding resulted to the birth of many gods and
goddesses. Another distinction of Greek Mythology from the Filipino’s
is that any of their characters can give birth by themselves. Moreover,
these differences doesn’t make any of the two superior nor inferior as
both are means of expressing each of the country’s beliefs during the
ancient times.
7. If Greek Mythology has
Olympus, Filipino Mythology
has Kaluwalhatian. This is
where the deities are believed
to reside.
