1. Masthead: ‘Bride Wars’ is displayed
at the lower area of the poster
between the two main characters,
framed by their hands to maintain
the fact that it is the central focus of
the film. The bond but also the
friction between the two characters
is shown because they are both
brides but this creates the ‘war’
between them
Font: The word ‘Bride’ is in plain black italics because this is the type of font
associated with elegance and wedding invitations which is the theme of the film.
In contrast, the word ‘wars’ is in capital, bold, red font. The colour red symbolises
danger or fighting and the bold capitals show the importance of the word.
Characters: The two actress’s
are both wearing wedding
dresses to again relate back to
the wedding/bridal theme. They
are facing each other looking
into each others eyes showing
that they have a friendship
connection but also animosity
toward one another. They frame
the masthead, drawing attention
to it and are titled by the actress
names. The slight smiles and
positions suggest that the film
may be a romantic comedy.
Background: The background
is predominantly a
white/gold/golden colour which
links to the bridal theme, this
causes the red writing to stand
out and for their dresses to
almost blend in, bringing
attention to their revealing
expressions.
Subtext: ‘Even best friends
can’t share the same wedding
day’. This phrase is again
framed by the two main
characters and it is in the centre
of the poster showing it’s
importance and relation to the
narrative.
Extra: The small text just below
the film title contains information
to promote the film including
directors, producers, the film
company and star ratings. Any
awards including Oscars or
BAFTAS would also be shown
in this section.
