3. Definitions - Diversity
Diversity means all the ways we differ. Some of these
differences we are born with and cannot change. Anything
that makes us unique is part of the definition of diversity. It
means respect for and appreciation of differences in race,
ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age,
national origin, physical ability, religion, ethical values,
education, veteran status, socioeconomic status, political
ideology, and more.
4. Definitions - Intersectionality
Intersectionality is the theory that oppressions are
interlinked and cannot be resolved alone. People's lives are
multi-dimensional and complex. Lived realities are shaped
by different factors and social dynamics operating together.
Inequities are never the result of single, distinct factors;
rather they are the outcome of intersections of different
social locations, power relations, and experiences.
5. Definitions - Inclusion
Inclusion is a state of being valued, respected, and
supported. It’s about focusing on the needs of every
individual by creating an environment of involvement,
respect, and connection where each person can achieve
their full potential. It’s where intersectionality, the richness
of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives are harnessed to
create innovation, opportunity, and value for people,
organizations, communities, and our world.
