A proposal for SXSW 2016: While we cannot escape the gender diversity debate in our personal lives, the discussion has only just begun on the role of gender traits in business design. Some of the dominant brands throughout history have demonstrated assertive traits of the male gender, but the major cultural forces, business shifts, and impactful technology of the past 5 years champion the traits we are quick to deem less than desirable. Explore how to remove your cultural biases and infuse female values like community over individualism, openness and transparency over closed-doors, and empowering trust over elitism to disrupt the marketplaces in which you operate. Perhaps if the tech industry shifts our design thinking to mirror consumer behavior, Silicon Valley might put to rest the gender diversity debate on a national scale.
