EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR
SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATIONS
USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE ART CLASSROOM
Jennifer Kolendowicz
North Dorchester High School
July 2016
SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATIONS
Great presentations have several elements to add to the
overall design
 Slide transitions
 Slide builds
 Background template designs
 Font styles (sans serif works best)
Use of font colors and sizes emphasizes
important information, as does:
 Bold
 Italics
 Underline
Introducing only the title before presenting
information → discussion on the topic
List important topics at the beginning of
presentation
 Notice the sliding information on the next two slides
It adds interest and introduces one key point at a time
List of topics allows audience to know what will be covered
Adding and animating pictures catches audience
attention
SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATIONS
Align text in a uniform way
 Example – All bullets line up on left side of slide, consistently
SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATIONS
EXAMPLE PRESENTATION →
WHY DO WE USE SOCIAL MEDIA?
Stay in touch with family and friends
 Updates
 Photos
 Video / live stream
Network
Inspiration
TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR
SUPPLEMENTATION
Facebook
Twitter
YouTube
Deviant Art
HOW CAN SOCIAL MEDIA BE USED IN THE ART
CLASSROOM?
Advanced Placement courses → study groups /
share ideas (Facebook)
 Online critiques (Deviant Art)
View content of a missed class
(Facebook, Twitter & YouTube)
 Key Points & Notes
 Video tutorials on steps for a project
YOUTUBE
 Adding different types of
media will break up rhythm
of text
 Keeps audience engaged
and interested
 Use as supplement and not
entire presentation
REVIEWING STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE
PRESENTATIONS
Simplify text for each slide
Add images and video for interest
Keep a professional look when adding animation and
slide transitions
Pose a discussion question as a transition slide
Keep a uniform look to the presentation –
 Colors
 Fonts
 Typeface size
 Background designs
HOW CAN SOCIAL MEDIA BE
INCORPORATED IN OTHER
COURSES?
