3. of a child-centered curriculum. His moto for his lab school was
“learning by doing.” His school was established based on a
miniature of society and integrated learning into real life
experiences. It emphasized the problem solving method and
placed motivation at the center of the learning process.
◦These events are still significant today because____. The
secondary school movement is still significant today because
this impacted the opening of other high school around the
world. This is allowing our children of today, the ability to be
able to receive a proper education. As well as the curriculum
that they need. John Dewey is still impacting our lives today
because of his own simply moto “Learning by doing,” the more
that a child interacts with a certain subject or materialistic
object. The more they are learning. Learning is just not based
on books, and studying. Children learn by being engaged, and
interacting.
◦If I could change the outcome of one of my listed events I
would change John Dewey because he has a little bit of a
negative outlook on the old, rigid curriculum as he called it.
Yes, curriculum changes on a daily basis, but it is pretty much
the solid foundation on what we as teachers must teach our
students. We have to follow the guidelines, so our students get
the education that they need. Even if it mostly focuses on
standardized testing nowadays.
◦If only one of these events/individuals could have taken place;
I would choose. The secondary school movement because like I
said before this is allowing our children the opportunity to
receive an education.

◦What would you say is the most important result of each of
your chosen events? The most important result of the secondary
school movement is the fact that it impacted the growth of other
high schools around the world. Which in result allows us to
have schools now days. The result of John Dewey was the
advantage of learning through real life experiences. He wanted
his students to learn by doing. So basically this gives us a
reason to follow his moto. Simply letting our children learn by
doing. Enhances their self-expression, and creativity.
